Monday's Not Coming: A Psychological Thriller by the Author of Allegedly

"Jackson’s characters and their heart-wrenching story linger long after the final page, urging readers to advocate for those who are disenfranchised and forgotten by society and the system." (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List")

From the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Tiffany D. Jackson, comes a gripping novel about the mystery of one teenage girl’s disappearance and the traumatic effects of the truth.

Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable—more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn’t turn up for the first day of school, Claudia’s worried.

When she doesn’t show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn’t just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year’s rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best—and only—friend more than ever. But Monday’s mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday’s sister April is even less help.

As Claudia digs deeper into her friend’s disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday. How can a teenage girl just vanish without anyone noticing that she’s gone?

CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS BEFORE YOU DIVE IN: Bullying/ torture child neglect/abuse: [physically and emotionally] homophobic remarks depiction of poverty verbal abuse anxiety attacks mental repression this story is important, it tells the lives of so many children, particularly African American children who face disappointment from their parents and the system. At the heart of the story are Claudia and Monday, two inseparable best friends on the brink of entering the 8th grade together. But everything takes a chilling turn when Monday doesn’t show up on the first day—or any day for that matter. my thoughts: i devoured the audiobook in just 24 hours. admittedly, the chapter titles made it a bit tricky to keep track of the flow, but i managed to follow along. i have to be honest; while the story is impactful, i didn't find myself shedding tears. Perhaps it’s because i consume a lot of true crime content, which might have desensitized me. Could be a coping mechanism—i might need to bring that up in my next therapy session! What i really craved was more insight into Monday's story from her own POV. while i appreciated seeing Claudia's resilience in the wake of her friend's disappearance, it started to feel a bit stretched. Monday deserved the spotlight. Overall, this is an incredible read that highlights important themes that need to be heard again and again. It’s a story that resonates and deserves to be told widely. If you’re looking for something that sparks conversation and reflection, this is definitely one to check out!

A triggering read, but I appreciated the author shedding light on how black women and children go missing and no one bats an eye until it's too late.

Tiffany D. Jackson masterfully weaves a non-linear timeline, blurring past and present as Claudia pieces together Monday's last days, fighting against time, silence, and a system that continually fails girls like them. The novel pulses with raw emotion, tackling themes of friendship, neglect, gentrification, and the erasure of missing Black children in America. With every page, Monday's Not Coming will break your heart, twist your mind, and leave you breathless. This isn't just a story-it's a wake-up call.
