King of Pride (Kings of Sin, 2)

Ana Huang somehow managed to write one of my favorite MMCs ever. Kai Young is the definition of “cold to everyone else, devastatingly soft for one woman.” Every time he called Isabella “my love” instead of just “love,” I genuinely had to stop reading because my brain short-circuited. But what truly elevated this book beyond just another billionaire romance was the writing itself. Ana’s prose is absolutely gorgeous. It’s vivid, visceral, and emotionally immersive without ever feeling overwritten. Every metaphor, every comparison, every internal thought felt intentional. The imagery alone was enough to make me pause just to appreciate the wording. Lines comparing Isabella to “a rainbow in a sky of gray” or “a sunflower in a field of weeds” weren’t just romantic—they perfectly illustrated how Kai saw her. She wasn’t simply beautiful. She transformed the entire world around him. One of my favorite aspects of the novel was Ana Huang’s diction when writing Kai. She somehow captured his aristocratic British upbringing without constantly reminding the reader that he was British. Instead, it came through naturally in his word choice, restraint, dry wit, and the elegance of his narration. His voice felt refined and composed, yet beneath that polished exterior there was this simmering intensity threatening to break loose every time Isabella was involved. That contrast made his emotional moments hit so much harder. When his carefully controlled narration suddenly fractured because of jealousy, longing, or love, I felt every ounce of it. The jealousy? Incredible. This man went from “I’ve never been jealous before” to internally insulting every man who looked in Isabella’s direction. Him deciding another guy “wasn’t even that good-looking” because he dared exist near her had me laughing out loud. Toxic? Maybe. Fictional? Absolutely. Entertaining? Without question. What surprised me most, though, was that my favorite moments weren’t actually the spicy ones. They were the quiet ones. Kai noticing the tiny details about Isabella. Calling her “my love.” Opening his arms and simply saying, “Come here, love.” Thinking he’d trade away everything he’d built if it meant taking away even one minute of her pain. Watching her smile and thinking it had the power to right his entire world. Those moments carried far more emotional weight than any grand declaration ever could. The banter between them was another standout. Calling her “Ms. Valencia” with that mischievous edge, their effortless teasing, the constant push and pull—it all felt incredibly natural. Their chemistry wasn’t built solely on attraction; it was built on genuine friendship, admiration, and mutual understanding. Vivian also deserves her flowers because she spent half the novel subtly tormenting Kai while pretending to be innocent, and I loved every second of it. Even the side characters felt alive. Every glimpse of Dante and Vivian made me smile, and now I’m ridiculously excited for King of Greed (especially after learning we’re getting a Brazilian FMC!). The biggest compliment I can give this book is this: I wasn’t highlighting the spicy scenes. I was highlighting the writing. The diction. The metaphors. The emotional intimacy. The way Ana Huang could make one carefully chosen word—“my” in “my love”—completely change the emotional weight of a sentence. That’s good writing. By the end, my copy was overflowing with highlights, arrows, hearts, underlines, and increasingly unhinged margin notes because I simply couldn’t stop reacting. Kai Young is easily one of my favorite Ana Huang heroes because beneath the billionaire exterior is a man whose love is expressed through observation, devotion, quiet care, and absolute certainty. If your favorite trope is a man who falls first, falls harder, notices everything about the woman he loves, becomes hopelessly obsessed in the most entertaining fictional way possible, and speaks with enough quiet restraint that every affectionate word feels earned, read this book immediately.

This book was disappointing after the story of Dante and Vivian. Kai is annoying. After reading about him in the King of Wrath and seeing how he evolved in this book, didn’t like him at all. Isabella is amazing and a bad ass!

4.5⭐️ I loved this book and this couple soooo much. I knew even before starting it they’d be one of my top couples and I was right. Kai has literally risen to the top of my favorite Ana Huang men and fictional men lists. This book definitely wasn’t as dark as some of her others but I still enjoyed it and feel like their story is in some ways the most realistic of the bunch.
