King of Battle and Blood (Adrian X Isolde, 1)
An instant USA Today bestseller! From fan-favorite Scarlett St. Clair, the bestselling author of the Hades & Persephone series, comes a new fantasy filled with danger, darkness, and insatiable romance.
Their union is his revenge.
Isolde de Lara considers her wedding day to be her death day. To end a years-long war, she is to marry vampire king Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, and kill him.
But her assassination attempt is thwarted, and Adrian threatens that if Isolde tries to kill him again, he will raise her as the undead. Faced with the possibility of becoming the thing she hates most, Isolde seeks other ways to defy him and survive the brutal vampire court.
Except it isn't the court she fears most--it's Adrian. Despite their undeniable chemistry, she wonders why the king--fierce, savage, merciless--chose her as consort.
The answer will shatter her world.

I only heard about this book earlier this week and it sounded like something I would enjoy. It goes into romance, some intriguing past with the hero, and a little bit of magic. I got it right away and finished it fairly quickly.
It is heavy on romance. There are plenty of hot and heavy scenes if that's what you are looking for. There is very little magic/fantasy throughout the book, I thought it would be more dominant but it didn't really bother me. Just know that going in.
I wasn't a huge fan of the main character, Isolde. She was great at being a queen and showing everyone how tough and cruel she could be, but I wish we had more moments of vulnerability from her. She was kind of off-putting with our hero, Adrian. I wasn't entirely sold on their relationship.
Or any relationships, to be honest.
Side characters were just that. We barely had any depth to them and the dialogue was flat. Some scenes just made no sense to the characters or how the book was playing out. Everything seemed rushed as well, especially toward the end.
All in all, it was ok, nothing special. I've read better for cheaper. There is a sequel but I most likely won't continue on with this series.
Isolde learning about her past with Adrian and how it unfolded was rushed and didn't feel genuine to me. She went from still not trusting him and hating him even to suddenly loving him and being on his side. There was no natural progression after learning the truth. I would have liked to see more history explained, more scenes with them tense together, I don't know, something a bit more realistic. Once Ana found out, it was like "oh, you know, wow," and everyone moved on.
