All rise... for Judge Stone.

The most respected citizen in Union Springs, Alabama (population 3,314), is Judge Mary Stone. She holds two responsibilities sacred: running her family farm and presiding over her courtroom. It's there she draws the most controversial case in the history of the South.

Criminally, it's open-and-shut.

Ethically, there is no middle ground. Essentially, it's a choice between life and death.

No judge can satisfy everyone. It would be dangerous to try. But Judge Stone is willing to fight to bring justice to the people and place she loves.

Excellent but heavy read. If you are sensitive and easily triggered you may not like this book. However, very eye opening and meaningful for me nonetheless. Not only for the abortion issue, but for highlighting the myth of the "strong black woman." Im from AL so im familiar with towns like Union Springs, very real depiction. Worth the time. I listened to the book, I could almost see Viola Davis as Judge Stone!!!

Excellent from start to finish. A story that helps one to see all sides of the abortion issue and the repercussions of having one.

Wow, wow, wow! I’m so glad I listened to the audiobook version of Judge Stone because Viola Davis’ narration truly brought the plot to life. Set in the South, where politics deeply influences its people, you’re immediately immersed in a highly controversial case where your heart and the law clash. As a newcomer to the legal thriller genre, I appreciate that while this particular book is centered around courtroom drama, it doesn’t delve too deeply into legalese, making it easy to understand and follow. This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a truly gripping story (and one about a VERY controversial subject) that combines emotional depth with a touch of legal intrigue. I was liiiiiterally kept on the edge of my seat and I guarantee you will be too. P.S. the trigger warnings listed are spoilers so maybe don't scroll or read further if you're adding this to your TBR! I believe James Patterson just added his name and Viola Davis was the one who really wrote the book. It was an excellent book, it kept you interested and on the edge of your seat. Reminded me somewhat of To Kill A Mocking Bird, the trial scenes. We may think we are an enlightened society, but we are just as prejudiced as our parents.
