Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating

A hilarious, warmhearted, and swoonworthy romance about two people who are definitely not dating…no matter how often they end up in bed together, from the New York Times bestselling authors of The Unhoneymooners and Love and Other Words.

Hazel Camille Bradford knows she’s a lot to take—and frankly, most men aren’t up to the challenge. If her army of pets and thrill for the absurd don’t send them running, her lack of filter means she’ll say exactly the wrong thing in a delicate moment. Their loss. She’s a good soul in search of honest fun.

Josh Im has known Hazel since college, where her zany playfulness proved completely incompatible with his mellow restraint. From the first night they met—when she gracelessly threw up on his shoes—to when she sent him an unintelligible email while in a post-surgical haze, Josh has always thought of Hazel more as a spectacle than a peer. But now, ten years later, after a cheating girlfriend has turned his life upside down, going out with Hazel is a breath of fresh air.

Not that Josh and Hazel date. At least, not each other. Because setting each other up on progressively terrible double blind dates means there’s nothing between them...right?

This was a nice escape from the world! I enjoyed all the characters in this book. I laughed at Hazel's unapologetic uniqueness. I fell hard for Josh's stability. And I loved his Korean family. The ending was a little extra, but not that surprising. If you have a problem with extra steaminess, maybe this one isn't for you, but overall a quick read when you need to rest your brain.

95% of the book in and I would have said this was easily a 5-star read for me. I loved Hazel, Josh was decent and I loved them together. While I didn’t feel they did enough with them knowing each other in college as I would have liked, you could slowly see where he crept from tolerating her to liking her to loving her to full on needing her. The sex was also hotter than you’re average rom-com. The whole forced proximity/his apartment-ness of this book reminded me of Accidentally Amy, which I also loved.

Buuuuuuuut…..then we got to the ending. Not going to spoil it but I literally went “no, we addressed this earlier in the book.” This book would have been an amazing, instant five stars if instead of developing THAT last 5% of the book, CL put more effort into slow burning their college to adulthood relationship. But that ending, oof. dropped at least a star if not….more. Don’t judge those who went with one star because of that end. It’s accurate.

I loved loved loved this book and how much it shows us to always be yourself even if it’s weird and quirky and do not put up with anyone who makes you scared to truly be you.

There's a few things I know: 1. Ripley from Aliens is goddess tier 2. Khia "My neck, my back" will always be my anthem 3. RIP Bill Paxton 4. Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating is seriously cute, funny, and just a good time! I think this is my first rom/com and the first female mc that I really loved through and through. I also really appreciated that the male mc was Asian. You don't see that often in romance books.
