It's in His Kiss: Bridgerton: Hyancinth's Story

Meet Our Hero . . .

Gareth St. Clair is in a bind. His father, who detests him, is determined to beggar the St. Clair estates and ruin his inheritance. In this delightful Regency romance, Gareth’s sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past . . . and the key to his future. The problem is—it’s written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a word.

Meet Our Heroine . . .

All the ton agreed: there was no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. She’s fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken, and according to Gareth, probably best in small doses. But there’s something about her—something charming and vexing—that grabs him and won’t quite let go . . .

Meet Poor Mr. Mozart . . .

Or don’t. But rest assured, he’s spinning in his grave when Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual—and annually discordant—Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth’s every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. But as they delve into the mysterious text, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the diary, but in each other . . . and that there is nothing as simple—or as complicated—as a single, perfect kiss.

⭐️⭐️ The Treasure Hunt Was More Exciting Than the Romance Hyacinth is one of the best Bridgertons—sharp, witty, and full of personality. I was so ready for her love story to be as fun and bold as she is, but instead, the romance with Gareth felt underdeveloped and forgettable. Their chemistry had moments of potential, but the emotional depth just wasn’t there. Gareth lacked the charm and complexity needed to match Hyacinth’s energy, making their relationship feel flat rather than exciting. Surprisingly, the treasure hunt subplot was actually my favorite part. It added some intrigue and adventure to an otherwise lackluster romance, and honestly? I found myself more invested in that mystery than in whether Hyacinth and Gareth would end up together. If the book had leaned even further into the clues, secrets, and family history, it might have been more memorable. For a heroine as vibrant as Hyacinth, I expected so much more. Instead, this book felt unbalanced, with a romance that didn’t live up to the fun side plot. Not the worst in the series, but definitely not the best either.

Read this a few months ago. I loved Hyacinth's jubilant and confident energy, she was what I was expecting Eloise to be. Fun little heist-ish book, though I just wish the jewels actually mattered more in the end. I think it would have been more fun for the jewels plotline to have a different ending.

I knew Hyacinth was going to be a fun character and it was. Seen lady Danbury in this book was nice too and I love the relationship they had. Gareth and Hyacinth were a nice couple even tho they had their differences and opinions. I just loved everything about this book.

It's In His Kiss is such a refreshing read, as it seems to break the format that Julia Quinn sometimes sets for her novels. We get to follow Hyacinth who actually stands out from society, but in a charming and endearing way, that keeps her character likeable and you keep routing for. The jewel quest made the book a lot more entertaining to read, as it gave a new plot that hadn't been explored before.
