took me a while towards the end also Xadenâs plot line is literally Jaceâs in book 4 and 5 of TMI
I had a feeling this wouldnât be the end of the saga, just based on the title. We started at the top of the structure with Fourth Wing. Now weâre at Flame section, so imagine the third (and maybe final book) will be something Squad. EDIT: JK the third title has already been released and it has nothing Squad related in it but either way, figured thereâd be a third lol.
BEWARE OF SPOILERS BELOW:
Regarding Xaden and Violet - it felt very much like Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story vibes. At least for part 1. I do agree with some other comments that their arguments were going in circles but I do feel by the end there was some growth in their relationship. I think the next book will prove very interesting for their relationship.
In terms of plot - maybe because this book was long I sometimes skimmed or maybe the writing wasnât as clear as the first book but I found myself having to go back and reread sections. Like for example at the end, Violet speaks to Codagh and then we find out about Andarna but Iâm not sure what they ended up having to do with the wardstone? I found a few moments in the book where something was brought up, only for it to not really matter in the larger scheme of things. Or else I just misunderstood. So yeah, a bit of an issue there. Maybe this was Yarros trying to lengthen the novel and by doing so overcomplicated things.
Character development - What Yarros does do well though is actually make you care about characters. The fliers, the squad, the dragons, you are very invested in each as the novel goes on. Even Cat, the most annoying character redeems herself by the end. Violet really grows into her own along with ridoc, sawyer, and rhi. Xaden is an interesting one because he says he needs to be honest but hides still but we end up discovering why but maybe writing wise, it could be done in a less annoying way that feels he is just being contradictory/not growing as a character?
Plot wise - just like the first, I was on my toes. Unlike the first book where it was almost entirely predictable (minus Brennan and the Arethia piece), it was okay that it turned out the way you hoped. However with this book, I didnât predict many things that happened, which made it even more enjoyable.
So yeah, 4/5, canât wait for the 3rd.
