Game On (Into Darkness Series)

#1 New York Times Bestseller. Dark Romcom Sensation. Over 3 million copies sold.
Book three in the #1 New York Times bestselling Into Darkness Series, following Navessa Allen’s scintillating Lights Out and Caught Up. The game is on for these enemies-to-lovers with laugh-out-loud banter and scorching-hot brat play.
I hate that woman.
Tyler Neumann has spent years looking for his father, and not because he wants to meet the man. No, he wants to destroy him. And he’ll manipulate whoever he can to exact his revenge.
Including Stella McCormick. She’s everything Tyler hates. Her wealth and privilege have protected her for her entire life, and Tyler thinks it's time she finally paid the price. Whether she’s ready to or not.
I hate that man.
Stella might not believe in love at first sight, but loathing at first sight—no question. From the moment she sets eyes on Tyler in her tattoo parlor, she knows he’s the devil planning to make her life hell.
Forced to play the part of his girlfriend and invite him into her family’s glittering circles, Stella quickly clocks Tyler’s ulterior motives. But love and hate are two sides of the same coin, and soon she doesn’t know which is worse: being blackmailed by a man who wants to ruin her, or that they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other.
This is an enemies-to-lovers dark romance with morally grey characters. Some themes and scenes may be disturbing to readers. Please check the content warnings at the beginning of the book.
Tropes: Enemies-to-lovers / Forced proximity / Fake dating / Rom-com / Morally grey MMC / Black cat FMC / Blackmail / Kidnapping / Power imbalance / Age gap / Betrayal and redemption / Dark past / Revenge

Spice: 3/5 - multiple scenes, full description.
Okay, now that the gang is formed, tell me we are getting more books with them against the worst of humanity right? Please? Don't make me beg!
Each book becomes my new favorite, Tyler's story does not disappoint. I knew his behavior in previous books was foreshadowing some gritty past and unhealed trauma. But I was not ready for this installment. He's broken, angry and out for revenge. So much doesn't go as planned, we meet him when he is in his peak 'I'm king of the world' moment, and everything is a wild ride from there.
This series does a great job at interconnecting everyone's lives even though the characters don't realize how close they all have been to being friends, or at least knowing each other. The way Tyler's story wraps up is expected, but also rewarding. Some of the lose ends are left in a 'just assume they talked it out' state, but I think that is a given for how high everyone's emotions and trauma is in this book.
I do hope we can see this cast again in future books, I think they would make a great team. Go after the worst of the worst, maybe get deeper into the mob? I don't know, there is just so much potential for this cast.
If you love spicy romance books with bad guys that aren't so bad when you get to know them you're going to love this series.
It really highlights how the thrill of competition and strategy can bring people together or push them to their absolute limits. Reading about these tactical mind games always reminds me of my own love for sports analytics and mobile predictions. I prefer using mobile devices for my hobbies, but finding a secure, well-reviewed application can sometimes feel like a gamble in itself. While trying to narrow down my options, I remember reading an article that focused on the question Is Melbet a good app? and provided a complete breakdown of its features. Finding that reliable guide on Transfermarkt completely simplified my choice, and the platform has provided me with a super safe and fun environment ever since. I can't wait for our next group meeting to discuss the ending of the book!
Game On has proven to me that the magic of Lights Out was lightning in a bottle that this series has not managed to recapture. That book had chemistry, tension, and characters who felt fun. Game On feels like everyone involved desperately wants to be the loudest person in the room while nobody remembers to build an actual romance underneath all the noise. Game On should have been a sharp and darkly funny enemies-to-lovers romance. Instead, it was turned into a chaotic pile of fake dating, revenge plots, brat play, blackmail, and a throuple dynamic that feels tossed in purely for shock value.
Tyler Neumann spends most of the book consumed by revenge against his estranged father while dragging Stella McCormick into his schemes. Stella is supposedly this intimidating dominatrix tattoo artist, but the book rarely convinces me she has control over anything happening around her. Their relationship jumps from hatred to lust to strained emotional vulnerability so quickly that I never bought into any of it.
The banter nearly made me put this down. Every conversation feels like two people trying to out-snark each other on Twitter instead of behaving like humans with real chemistry. Tyler and Stella spend so much time insulting each other that I stopped rooting for tension and started wishing they would just break up and go to therapy separately. The romance never settles long enough to create real emotions because the book is too busy trying to convince the reader how edgy and provocative it is.
Then there’s the bird. That bird felt engineered in a lab to become quirky fan-favorite comic relief. Every single scene with it made me want to close the Libby app. The humor across the book is in the same strange space where the characters behave like caricatures instead of people. The only moment that actually worked for me was the bonus scene with Fred from Lights Out because it briefly reminded me why I loved the first book so much.
The audiobook performances from James Cassidy, Tara Langella, and Christopher Tester deserved a stronger script. They committed to the material and delivered solid performances, but no narrator can save dialogue that sounds this forced and overwritten.
Readers who enjoyed Caught Up will probably have a much better time with this than I did. I kept waiting for the emotional connection, tension, or addictive chemistry that made Lights Out work so well. It never showed up. Pick this up if you enjoy messy dark rom-coms packed with nonstop spice, morally gray love interests, fake dating drama, and relationship dynamics that exist purely to make your Goodreads updates entertaining.
The third book in a series, this one had a more interesting plot than the last but it was still too smutty for me. What could go wrong with an illegal gambling operation, blackmail, and a man who operates entirely on overconfidence?! I love a strong FMC, and Stella held her own. 3⭐️ Book #31 in 2026
Girl the bird is to die for and her being a tattoo artist chefs kiss!
