Caught Up (Into Darkness Series)

By Navessa Allen

#1 New York Times Bestseller. Dark Romcom Sensation. Over 3 million copies sold.

Book two in the #1 New York Times bestselling Into Darkness Series, following the viral BookTok novel, Lights Out. Navessa Allen ups the ante with voyeurism and a play club kink.

I wanted this woman, and I was a man who always got what he wanted.

Nico “Junior” Trocci knows Lauren Marchetti is off limits. She is sweetness and laughter, whereas Junior exists in a world of violence and depravity. Men like him don’t get to have women like her. It’s why he pushed her away back in high school and kept his distance ever since.

But when Junior looks Lauren up online, he discovers the shy, bookish girl he remembers is gone. In her place is a strikingly beautiful woman whose social media is filled with scantily clad pictures of herself and a connection to a nearby play club. Junior’s innocent curiosity quickly turns into a dark obsession. Watching Lauren from a distance isn’t enough; he needs to make her his.

He’s ruthless; a walking red flag. Good thing red is my favorite color.

Lauren is intrigued by the mystery man who keeps showing up at her club, who tempts her white-hot desires. But as their flirty online messages stir up a deeper form of connection, Lauren worries she’s developing real feelings for this brooding stranger. As their combined desire ratchets up to a breaking point, who will seduce who?

Caught Up is an obsessive dark romance with morally grey characters. Some themes and scenes may be disturbing to readers. Please check the content warnings at the beginning of the book.

This was not an enjoyable listen for me. I thoroughly enjoyed Lights Out, but this sequel unfortunately did not deliver in the same way. The connections felt forced, the humor was awkward, and the nonchalant views of all things sexual left me incredibly uncomfortable. I didn't really enjoy this listen and wound up speeding through to the end just to get it over with.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Format: Audiobook I am amazed that I could like this one as much as the 1st one (Lights Out). It's not often you see an author use different POVs so well and still slide in old characters smoothly. There is no doubt that book one is in the same world and town as the last book, even with new main characters. Love that we get to see the main characters from the 1st book and get an update on their lives, and not just a peek. They pop up several times...woven in nicely. I have no regrets with this read, and I can't wait to grab the physical copy for my library 🥰😈. This is not for children! Definitely for my SMUT LOVERS! Looking for a morally grey bad ass to protect your heart and give you the space to be unapologetically you....JUNIOR is your guy!!! Didn't think I could love another after JOSH. I was soooo wrong! Parts had me giggling like crazy while washing the dishes and had my husband looking like I was crazy 😅 #bookstagram #booktok #bookreview #bookworm #realityescapeartist777 #bookclub #navessaallen #caughtup

Not nearly as entertaining as Lights Out, but still enjoyable.

Well, I didn't DNF it.
I had heard from many people that this was different than Lights Out, so I went in thinking it was going to be a whole other book, and it was, unfortunately, it was boring as fck.
They know each other as teenagers. He betrayed her by lying about her. And now he's back in her life with almost no groveling at all for a horrible betrayal of her trust in high school and she just forgives him. Blah. He ruined her high school life, don't just roll onto your back.
His character may have been stalking her for the past ten years, but the book only mentions it, it certainly doesn't show it, and he was completely sound in the head, he's not unhinged in any way.
The middle of the book is very boring. Lots of repetitiveness. Lots of "I'm a sex worker" and "my Dad sucks, I want out of the mob".
The book is not even that spicy 😭 The spiciest it gets is when they do some voyeurism and then, at the end of the book when they do some exhibitionism. 🌶🌶/5 chilies on the spicy scale. I'm very disappointed as Lights Out was 4 chilies for me.

I loved “Lights Out” and was so excited for this one, but honestly, I just felt indifferent. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the read, but it lacked the same energy that made the first book so addictive! I was thrilled to see those little cameos from Aly & Josh! I wasn’t sure if we’d get to catch a glimpse of them in this story, so I’m really glad they appeared. Junior and Lauren’s story was adorable! And I have to say, the scenes at the club were sizzling, didn't hurt that they were pretty hot! I expected Junior to be a bit more discreet about his identity, but she figured it out so quickly. It felt a little off to me. There are some really steamy scenes, and I liked the overall story, but it dragged a bit and lost that irresistible pull; it didn't have that can't-put-down feel.
