Caught Up (Into Darkness Series)

#1 New York Times Bestseller. Dark Romcom Sensation. Over 3 million copies sold.
Book two in the #1 New York Times bestselling Into Darkness Series, following the viral BookTok novel, Lights Out. Navessa Allen ups the ante with voyeurism and a play club kink.
I wanted this woman, and I was a man who always got what he wanted.
Nico “Junior” Trocci knows Lauren Marchetti is off limits. She is sweetness and laughter, whereas Junior exists in a world of violence and depravity. Men like him don’t get to have women like her. It’s why he pushed her away back in high school and kept his distance ever since.
But when Junior looks Lauren up online, he discovers the shy, bookish girl he remembers is gone. In her place is a strikingly beautiful woman whose social media is filled with scantily clad pictures of herself and a connection to a nearby play club. Junior’s innocent curiosity quickly turns into a dark obsession. Watching Lauren from a distance isn’t enough; he needs to make her his.
He’s ruthless; a walking red flag. Good thing red is my favorite color.
Lauren is intrigued by the mystery man who keeps showing up at her club, who tempts her white-hot desires. But as their flirty online messages stir up a deeper form of connection, Lauren worries she’s developing real feelings for this brooding stranger. As their combined desire ratchets up to a breaking point, who will seduce who?
Caught Up is an obsessive dark romance with morally grey characters. Some themes and scenes may be disturbing to readers. Please check the content warnings at the beginning of the book.
Tropes: Stalker romance / Morally grey MMC / Masked stalker / He falls first / Kink friendly / Second chance romance / Found family / Touch her and die

I am amazed that I could like this one as much as the 1st one (Lights Out). It's not often you see an author use different POVs so well and still slide in old characters smoothly. There is no doubt that book one is in the same world and town as the last book, even with new main characters. Love that we get to see the main characters from the 1st book and get an update on their lives, and not just a peek. They pop up several times...woven in nicely.
I have no regrets with this read, and I can't wait to grab the physical copy for my library 🥰😈. This is not for children! Definitely for my SMUT LOVERS! Looking for a morally grey bad ass to protect your heart and give you the space to be unapologetically you....JUNIOR is your guy!!! Didn't think I could love another after JOSH. I was soooo wrong! Parts had me giggling like crazy while washing the dishes and had my husband looking like I was crazy 😅

Not nearly as entertaining as Lights Out, but still enjoyable.
Navessa Allen took a sharp turn with Caught Up and I hated almost every minute of it. The first book felt like messy popcorn smut written for women who wanted tension, obsession, and fantasy. This one felt like it was written entirely for the male gaze. Every spicy scene centered Junior’s fantasies while Lauren existed more like a fantasy object than a believable woman.
Lauren works as a webcam performer and Junior becomes obsessed after reconnecting with her online. He stalks her socials and inserts himself into her life. Somehow that spirals into live sex shows, orgies, threesomes, motorcycle rides, and endless explicit scenes stitched together with the thinnest excuse for a plot. The relationship never felt romantic or emotionally convincing. Junior’s entire personality boiled down to possessive mafia guy with a motorcycle. I could not take a grown man named Junior seriously during any of the intense scenes.
The biggest issue was how artificial Lauren felt as a character. Every encounter seemed crafted around what would sexually satisfy Junior instead of what made sense for her emotionally or psychologically. She bends to every fantasy Junior dreams up almost immediately. The book treats that as empowerment without ever giving her much depth outside of sex. The dialogue during intimate scenes became unintentionally funny more than once because everything sounded exaggerated and performative.
The audiobook cast honestly saved this from being a one-star read. Teddy Hamilton delivers exactly the kind of dark, gravelly intensity these romances need. Kasi Hollowell brought far more personality to Lauren than the writing gave her on the page. Jason June also added energy that kept the listening experience engaging. I probably would have DNFed halfway through without the narrators carrying this on their backs.
Caught Up was a miss for me. I needed stronger emotional development, a more believable romance, and characters who existed outside of sexual scenarios. Caught Up's plot felt like a flimsy bridge connecting increasingly outrageous scenes together. Readers who want wall-to-wall spice for the male gaze may still eat this up.
Mmmmm love me some Niko Junior 🤤
Amazing! First and foremost, I know there was so much controversy surrounding the narrator choice, both were PERFECT for this story. I loved Nico (Jr.) and Lauren are perfectly imperfect. The fact that Lauren is a cam girl and Nico does the clean-up for the mafia, match made in Dark Romance HEAVEN. Even the friends are perfect! Loved how Navessa shared the light on how the sex worker life has so many layers and that these women are in charge, in power and in control of their sexuality and how they are in full control of their lives and bodies. Nico's obsessive behavior is nothing shorter than what dark romance dreams are made of. This is so great! Not as "funny" as Lights Out but this story held it's own. Great story!
