I spent my time reading this one thinking “was this a necessary sequel?” And I don’t think it was. Like, 90% of the story felt like it undid any of the growth either Jamie or Wes did from book 1 - it was rife with miscommunication that they both handled quite well previously. I guess they finally showed their age in this one, because I found them both quite juvenile.
On top of their internal conflicts and insecurities, there were also a handful of external issues creating tension for the happy couple, including a scary sheep flu (this sure hit differently after our own 4-year time void!), rampant homophobia and biphobia, scheduling conflicts, work pressures, nosy neighbours, etc. It felt very heavy-handed to try and fill in as much as possible and I just found it very messy.
Oh well, at least it was a quick read!
