Cry Wolf (Alpha and Omega, Book 1)

#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs presents the first Alpha and Omega novel—the start of an extraordinary series set in Mercy Thompson’s world, but with rules of its own...

Anna never knew werewolves existed until the night she survived a violent attack…and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she’d learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. But Anna is that rarest kind of werewolf: an Omega. And one of the most powerful werewolves in the country is about to recognize her value as a pack member—and as his mate.

I loved Briggs' Mercy Thompson series, but I had a hard time paying attention to this story, as it just didn't grab me in the same way. That may be in part because it's not written in first person. I also really didn't care for the narrator of the audiobook version. His primary voice was OK, but the voices he used for most of the characters (esp. the women) were just wrong. I think I would've preferred that a woman narrate the book.

I've already bought the next two audiobooks in this series, based on my previous enthusiasm for Briggs' work, so I'll give them a try. But I'm afraid I'll probably end up only listening with half an ear while I play games on my iPad!

Re-read for book club but I didn't really like it much more than the first time I read it. I LOVE Patricia Briggs and her writing is always stellar but this story just doesn't resonate with me the way her others do.

I liked seeing Charles and his new mate Anna get to know each other. And following along as Anna gains a sense of self, belonging and confidence in her role as an Omega and as Charles’s mate. Buuut this book is in third person and I found that the secondary story about the Witch and Azil and how it connects to the string of attacks in the woods made me feel bored most of the time.

I do have an attachment to Mercy and her crew now that I’ve read 3 of those books so maybe I’m a little bias🤷🏾‍♀️.

However, I liked learning more about Bran’s backstory; that is something I look forward to learning more about.

Interesting 3rd person views, alternating between characters frequently.

Loved the main character.
