Blood Bound (Mercy Thompson, Book 2)

“Kick-ass were-coyote auto mechanic Mercedes Thompson” (Publishers Weekly) has leapt to the forefront of today’s urban fantasy heroes, thanks to bestselling author Patricia Briggs. Now, Mercy finds herself in the middle of a bloodbath—with only one way out...
Mercy has friends in low places—and in dark ones. And now she owes one of them a favor. Since she can shapeshift at will, she agrees to act as some extra muscle when her vampire friend Stefan goes to deliver a message to another of his kind. But this new vampire is hardly ordinary—and neither is the demon inside of him.
When the undead and the werewolves sent to find him don’t return, the local vampire queen turns to Mercy for help. A coyote is no match for a demon, but Mercy is determined to get her friends back—including the two werewolves circling around her heart.

(Listened to audiobook version.) Enjoyable sequel to Moon Called.
Blood Bound, follows a few months after Moon Called, book two in the Mercy Thompson series. Called on by her friend and regular client of her mechanic shop, Stephen, Mercy agrees to accompany him to meet an unknown vampire in town in the middle of night. A visit that presumably is a routine one for Stephen, but just in case it’s not, he wants Mercy’s unique immunity to the undead as backup.
Of course, things are never that simple and almost overnight, violence beings erupt all over the town.
With existence of the Fae—and now Werewolves—known to the public, tension continues to mount both within and outside of the paranormal communities practically forcing Mercy to step up to save and protect her friends once again.
Unlike Moon Called, book two of the Mercy Thompson series left me with a lasting feeling of sadness, worry and fear when I finished it. With Mercy entering into the Vampiric side of the world, the reader is exposed to more death, fear and blood.
This is strengthened by the haunting details and lasting effects all of the crime the lone vampire/daemon in town has caused. In my opinion, as a reader, that fear meter goes up even more when Mercy herself is in the center of a lot of the first-hand attacks.
Along side the lore of the fantasy and paranormal world and action this series gives us, I enjoy the way the authors works in the romantic elements of with the favorable men in Mercy’s life.
What I don’t like: 1st) seeing more of the dated misogynistic ideals being repeated and even having more space in the narrative when it comes to the wolves.
2nd) Feeling like religion is going to have a big impact on the book/series when it comes to Mercy right now even though she wasn’t like this in book one.
What I like: Mercy’s always her own person. She’s in this world of the unknown still but she’s genuine to those she considers friends.
I like that Adam is just observant of her and protective.
While I feel for Samuel’s character I do favor Adam for some reason; maybe it’s because he is a part of Mercy’s new life that she built herself and while Adam is protective, he doesn’t give off the unwanted and irritating vibes of wanting to control Mercy like Samuel does all the time. Even his father isn’t like that with his easy manner.
Blood Bound does, however, illuminates our fierce walker’s morals and sense of justice that go beyond pack rules and vampire politics. Her bravery will give readers some closure over the whole ordeal, but it the last few lines of Blood Bound do anything, it’s guarantee that there is more danger to come.
Fun.
This one was much better than the first. And I can see where people fall into this series. All kinds of nonsense going on with my girl Mercy. Can’t wait for the third.
To be honest, the second one was a little hard to follow maybe because it introduced the realm of vampires. But nevertheless I love mercy and the fearless attitude. But I am team Adam.
