Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices)

Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still. Discover the “compulsively readable” (Booklist) first book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Infernal Devices trilogy, prequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series! Clockwork Angel is a Shadowhunters novel.
When Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks, and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Kidnapped by a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm’s length…everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world…and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

This is my third time to read Clockwork Angel. I still love it--love everything about it.
Wonderful prequel to the Mortal Instruments Series. This series is called The Infernal Devices. Did not expect the brother to be so evil and selfish. Adore Jem and want to see what Will's secret is. Magnus, you're still adoreablely wickedly good. Tessie is stronger than she knows and the trick she did to Mortmain was sheer genius. Want to slap so me sense into Henry but he's just a befuddled hubby who loves his laboratory and wife..in that order it seems.
Enjoyed it mostly but the middle was getting long.

truly epic
It was a good read. I think from all of Clare's books this one was my favourite (I still have many reservations about the COB series). The twists and turns were superb and for someone who normally sees through the plot rather quickly, I was pleasantly surprised at how this was pulled off, given my history with her. It hadn't exceeded by expectations but I wasn't sorely disappointed. For the characters, I liked Jem, yes, but I felt as if I didn't have a choice given the behaviours of the other characters, which made them so unlikeable. Will now be my least favourite given the ending but I hope there's an explanation for him forcing himself on Tessa like that. Like, please. Harassment out of the blue? The ending was a bit chaotic and I felt like it could have been done a bit differently, it feels as if the author favoured some characters over others, so the ending seemed a bit out of place to me. All in all, I might not finish the series anytime soon (or at all) but I would recommend reading it if you like dark fantasy and something you don't have to commit to.
This was my first Cassandra Clare. I really enjoyed the language and the action. There were characters I liked, characters I didn't like and characters I still don't know if I liked. Honestly Charlotte and Henry were two people I do not know what to do with. For some reason I think I would have liked them more if I had met them while standing on my head. Not sure why I feel that way, maybe because we are never really given their motivations.
There were a lot of questions asked that were not answered. I would hope they are going to be answered within the next books. This has made me a little annoyed I don't have the second book on hand to see if any of them were answered.
