When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. And she’s more than a little startled when the body disappears into thin air. Soon Clary is introduced to the world of the Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of warriors dedicated to driving demons out of our world and back to their own. And Clary is introduced with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque monster. How could a mere human survive such an attack and kill a demon? The Shadowhunters would like to know…

Clary discovers a world she’s been shielded from after witnessing the “murder” of a demon by three teenagers. The body then disappeared in thin air and Clary can’t believe what she’s seeing. Everything is happening all at once. Her mother is kidnapped by shadow hunters looking for a cup she knows nothing about. She finds out that her mother and Luke are not who she thought they were. Her life is turned upside down. Now she has to fight and find this cup to save her mother from the evil that took her, Valentine.
While I enjoyed this story, Clary’s character was the worse. All she did was whine and complain. I wished I could tell her to “SHUT UP!” Alec was also whiny. Neither one of them had likable qualities. Jace made the story worth reading. If it wasn’t for his character I probably would have DNF it. I enjoyed the plot twist with Hodge. No one understood his desires, but I did and in the end he still redeemed himself. He loved those kids. Everything he did was to free himself, but also to protect those kids. All in all it wasn’t a bad book, just a couple bad characters.
One of my top favourite books for YA and fantasy
bello, me lo ricordavo meglio.
It wasn't all bad. Romances are superficial and quick; almost every character is annoying and eye-roll worthy, with Clarissa being absolutely unbearable at times. The plot is weak at some points but interesting and captivating nonetheless. I'm definitely not impressed, but we'll see what the next book has to offer.
Has the potential to be a great series, will see where the next book takes us.
