American Royals

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING SERIES • What if America had a royal family? If you can't get enough of Harry and Meghan or Kate and William, meet American princesses Beatrice and Samantha. Crazy Rich Asians meets The Crown. Perfect for fans of Red, White, and Royal Blue and The Royal We!

Two princesses vying for the ultimate crown.
Two girls vying for the prince's heart.
This is the story of the American royals.

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne. Like most royal families, the Washingtons have an heir and a spare. A future monarch and a backup battery. Each child knows exactly what is expected of them. But these aren't just any royals. They're American.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America's first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she's breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn't care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there's Samantha's twin, Prince Jefferson. If he'd been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

The duty. The intrigue. The Crown. New York Times bestselling author Katharine McGee imagines an alternate version of the modern world, one where the glittering age of monarchies has not yet faded--and where love is still powerful enough to change the course of history.

"The lives of the American royal family will hook you in the very first pages and never let go. Relatable, believable, fantastical, aspirational, and completely addictive." --Sara Shepard, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Pretty Little Liars and Perfectionists series

Ok. I will say that this book took me a WHILE to get into. Like, for at least the first 125 pages, I was B O R E D. Things were predictable like a hallmark movie (which I do enjoy) but the book format was making the plot move soooooooo sloooooowlyyyyy. However, after about page 200, I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. It felt like addicting fan fiction.

November’s read was American Royals by Katherine McGee. Set in modern day America, the White House is no longer the seat of democratic power, but home for the monarchy. These 17 to 22 year-old heirs and their friends try to navigate political and romantic trappings while the whole world watches their every move. We found it to be a very enjoyable, face-value read. Not much discussion to be had, but you will find yourself invested in the fates of these great characters, and there were plenty of moments that will have you smiling ear to ear or grumbling from stressful frustration. Ultimately, it felt like a teen drama made for its own tv show. 4/5 stars for a light, enjoyable read.

I had such high hopes for this book. I was ready for it to be a cute, sweet, even shady look about What America's Royal Family would be like. After all, I adored the Selection series, and was v here for "Red, White, And Royal Blue" so I thought this book would be right up my alley. I was sorely disappointed.

While American Royals started strong for me, about 100 pages in I was ready for it to be over. As Much as I wanted to like ANY of the characters, there was no hope. All of the characters felt extremely one dimensional to me and I wasn't really rooting for any of them. I'm going to read the next book, in the series, but I'm not really looking forward it.
