Book lovers, we've got some exciting news to share! The Bookclubs app has undergone a major redesign, and we can't wait for you to experience the fresh new look and improved functionality (as of May 6, 2024).

This blog post will walk you through the new app, and for those of you who have already been using the app, we’ll highlight some of the changes from the old to the new design. For a full overview of how to use the app, visit our app tutorial

And the exciting thing is that these are just the start of the updates we have planned for our app.  Up next, we’ll be rolling out new designs for the club Meetings and Polls interfaces that will make it easier to view, create or edit a meeting or poll, as well as updates to your club’s Members tab.

We’d love your feedback on the updates so far!  Let us know what you think by contacting us here.  We’re always striving to improve Bookclubs.

New Home Screen

Screen shot of new app home screenWhen you open the Bookclubs app, you’ll now be greeted by a new home screen (previously the app opened up your club’s Meetings tab, or to a list of all your clubs if you are a member of multiple clubs).

At the top of the screen, you’ll see upcoming events like club meetings or open polls for you to vote in.  If you are a member of more than one club, you’ll be able to see upcoming meetings and polls across all of your clubs.

On this screen, you can also check out our monthly recommended reading for more book club inspiration!

Click the “Home” icon at the bottom of your app at any time to return to this screen.

Updated Navigation

We’ve updated our navigation bar.  You’ll now find DMs and Notifications on the upper right side of your screen.  My Clubs, My Books, and My Profile remain on the navigation bar, along with the new Home screen and a “More” menu you can open to:

  • Search for a book
  • Browse open to the public clubs (Our “Join a Book Club” directory)
  • Find book club discussion questions for popular books
  • Get help, whether it’s accessing How To guides and FAQs, or contacting us

Revamped Club Pages

Screenshot of "About our Club" tab on Bookclubs appWe’ve updated the design throughout the club pages to make things cleaner and clearer, and to prioritize the primary club functions.

Rather than having to scroll left and right to find different tabs within your club, you can now see all of your most-used club tabs at the top of your club page, including “About,” “Books,” “Meetings,” “Messages,” and “Polls”

Where did the other tabs go?  Refer to this handy cheat sheet of changes if you’re having trouble finding something:

  • “Members” → Can now be found under the “About” tab
  • “Currently Reading” → Can now be found under the “Books” tab
  • “Books We’ve Read” → Can now be found under the “Books” tab
  • “Books We Want to Read” → Can now be found under the “Books” tab

We’ve also reorganized the “About” tab, including moving the following:

  • “Settings” → Still found under the “About” tab; click on the Gear icon to open (Admins only).  Club settings have also been streamlined to make it easier to use.
  • “Invite members” → Click on the “Invite new members” button on the bottom of the “Members” tab (now found within the “About” tab)
  • Edits to club name, description and contact information → Click on “Edit club” under the “About” tab (Admins only)

How to download the Bookclubs App

You can find the Bookclubs app for free on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.  If you already have a Bookclubs account, you can use the same credentials you use on our website to log in.  If you don’t yet have an account, it’s simple to set one up with your name, email address and password – or you can sign up with your existing Google, Apple, or Facebook account.
