She Writes Press’s mission is to support women writers. In 2019, it was the first hybrid press to win Independent Publisher of the Year, an award given by the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group. Congratulations to their author Linda Stewart Henley! Her second novel, WATERBURY WINTER was just named a finalist in the Foreword INDIES Book Award for Humor in Fiction.
Inanna Publications is one of a handful of Canadian feminist publishers. Among their titles is CORA'S KITCHEN, a debut novel set during the Harlem Renaissance, written by Kimberly Garrett Brown. Congratulations also to Ms. Brown, as CORA’S KITCHEN was named a finalist in the ForeWord INDIES Book Award for Multicultural Fiction!
Livingston Press at The University of West Alabama publishes 8 – 10 books a year, concentrating in literary fiction, with occasional forays into poetry or creative non-fiction.
We have a sneak peek at one of their upcoming literary fiction titles: award-winning writer Robert McKean's new novel, MENDING WHAT IS BROKEN, comes out August 20th. In this bittersweet story about the families we make and we lose, about working class towns and fading dreams, Robert McKean gives us a subtle riff on The Merchant of Venice, as well as the touching and often funny story of a man creating his own second chances in life.
Black Lawrence Press publishes poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Its name sprung from where it was founded—in New York between the Black River and the St. Lawrence River.
Jill Stukenberg’s debut novel, NEWS OF THE AIR, won the press’s 2021 Big Moose Prize and was published in fall 2022. Necessary Fiction called it “…a moving novel exploring perennial themes of belonging, escaping, and making a home.”
Regal House Publishing is a woman-owned, traditional publishing house based in North Carolina. Among its forthcoming titles is TOWARD THE CORNER OF MERCY AND PEACE by Tracey D. Buchanan, a charming and touching debut novel about a quirky widow who prefers communing with the dead to dealing with the living. When a young boy and his father burst into her world, her life in small-town Paducah is turned on its head. Lynne Bryant, author of Catfish Alley and Alligator Lake, said “…Prepare to have your funny bone tickled and your heart melted as Minerva wrestles with the inescapable vulnerability of being alive.” Look for it this June!
