About The Fantastic Females Book Club
The Fantastic Females Book Club was originally established in November 2010 on the Meetup.com platform, and in September 2023 it was transferred over to BookClubs.com. Over the past decade, the group has helped foster many lifelong friendships. Together, we learn and grow through exploring a plethora of genres and topics. The atmosphere is one of kindness, friendliness, and curiosity. If those qualities ring true for you, we’d love to have you join us!
A Few Guidelines:
- We meet one Friday each month from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in Glastonbury, CT.
- Book clubs work best when participants show up! It is understandable that life happens, and it’s not always possible to finish reading a novel prior to that month’s book discussion. However, even if you have not completed the book, please still join us for the meeting! We will discuss the entire text (spoilers included!), but everyone’s opinions and experiences are important contributions!
- Over the years, members' age limits have ranged from early 20's to early 60's. We are a multigenerational group of women that embraces inclusion, acceptance, and equity.
- Please be kind! We don’t have to always agree on everything- in fact, we often don’t- but kindness, compassion, and empathy are crucial to creating a safe, comfortable environment in which each member feels valued and heard. A member who intentionally hurts or bullies other members will be removed from the group.
- We have the pro level subscription to BookClubs.com. To offset the $175 yearly fee, $5 in dues will be collected through BookClubs.com upon joining the group. After that, a nominal yearly fee will be collected.
- We primarily read contemporary fiction, but we've also read historical fiction, memoirs, essays, nonfiction, science fiction, true crime, spirituality, and adolescent literature, among other genres. We've been fortunate enough to host several authors over the years, and we hope to continue to have more opportunities to do so in the future.
- Book club meetings are usually capped at a maximum number of participants (often somewhere between 10-20 women) based on the size of the venue. Doing so affords everyone the opportunity to contribute to the book discussion should they desire, and it ensures that we can comfortably fit in the available space. Due to the attendee limit, it is a good idea to RSVP earlier than later to snag a spot at the meeting.
- If you are signed up to attend a meeting but can no longer make it, please change your RSVP status on BookClubs.com. This lets the rest of the group know not to anticipate your arrival. Thank you!
