About The Black Lit Society CLE
✨ Types of Books We Read
We spotlight books written by Black authors and authors of color, across genres that showcase the diversity of storytelling within our communities.
Our monthly picks may include:
• Contemporary Fiction & Urban Lit – stories that reflect our everyday lives, love, and resilience.
• Historical Fiction – narratives that honor our past and explore heritage and legacy.
• Romance & Black Love Stories – celebrating authentic connections, healing, and joy.
• Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense – gripping plots that keep us turning pages and challenge stereotypes.
• Memoirs & Nonfiction – real voices, real stories that educate, empower, and inspire.
• Afrofuturism & Speculative Fiction – imagining new worlds and possibilities rooted in our culture.
We value variety. Each month, members vote on book selections — ensuring everyone’s voice is heard and our shelves stay as diverse as our experiences.
💬 Participation Guidelines
To keep our space welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring, members are asked to follow these community values:
1. Respect Every Voice
We encourage open, thoughtful discussion. Listen actively, speak kindly, and honor differing perspectives.
No judgment. No gatekeeping. Just good vibes and growth.
2. Be Present & Engaged
Participation matters! We know life gets busy, but try to:
- Read the monthly selection (or most of it!).
- Join at least one discussion per month (virtual).
- Engage in polls, group chats, or reading challenges.
3. Support Our Authors
We prioritize purchasing or borrowing books written by Black and POC authors. Supporting their work supports the culture. 💪🏾
4. Keep the Space Safe
Hate speech, discrimination, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
We’re building community — not competition.
5. Show Up Authentically
Come as you are. Whether you’re a casual reader or a bookworm with a stack taller than you — you belong here.
