Reading Mermaids

Established in 2016, Reading Mermaids is a welcoming and inclusive book club for women in Hampton Roads.

The Reading Mermaids meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm at a local restaurant in Southside Hampton Roads.

Books are nominated by our regular members and polls are posted in the Bookclubs app for all to weigh in. Some months are themed, e.g., nonfiction February, beach read June, spooky October options, and classics in December. December's holiday event is limited to regular members only. (Regular members are those who have attended at least 3 meetings and will be added to the group chat.)

We welcome restaurant recommendations from all Mermaids! Locations must be open on Tuesdays and able to accommodate reservations/large groups.

Please note the following Reading Mer-Manners:

1. Attendees who do not RSVP will not be welcome to join the event.
2. All attendees must finalize their attendance by the Sunday night before Tuesday book club. Anyone who does not have a firm YES at that time will be counted as a NO for reservation/restaurant selection purposes.
3. Attendees should plan to arrive within a half hour of event start. Anyone arriving more than 30 minutes after event start (typically, 7 PM or later) will not be accommodated.
