About Power in Prose
In celebration of high vibrations and black women’s voices, I’m inviting book lovers to join a new, in-person book club called “Power in Prose” based in Charlotte, NC. I'm hoping to have the first meeting in January 2025.
If you believe in the power of books to heal, encourage growth, bring joy, and enlighten, this may be the perfect book club for you. If you’re interested in creating nourishing connections and community around your love of reading, while examining beautiful works of fiction and non-fiction, this is definitely the perfect book club for you.
What are potential books on the reading list?
We'll use polling to select books with a focus on themes of belonging, community, love, self-discovery, compassion, and wellness.
Think classics by bell hooks, Toni Morrison and Octavia Butler.
New fiction such as Not So Perfect Strangers by L.S. Stratton and Grown Women by Sarai Johnson.
New non-fiction such as Consider This: Reflections for Finding Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab and We Will Rest! The Art of Escape by Tricia Hersey.
When & Where We'll Meet
Once a month, depending on everyone's schedule, in coffee shops, cafes and bookstores around Charlotte. I'm new to Charlotte, so venue recommendations are welcome! Polls will be used to select the best day/time for everyone.
