About Horror Explorers
Open to discussing all types of horror books. Trendy or classic literature. Preference will be given to books with multiple copies available in the metro library system.
Deets for all our new members!!
WHO WE ARE
We're a 21+ group of horror fiction literature enthusiasts in the Twin Cities, MN metro area. We meet about once a month in-person for adults-only discussions (no kids--this isn't that kind of book club). It's a fun & quirky group!!
WHERE'S THE BOOK LIST?
I posted a graphic in the messages.
HOW TO GET THE MONTHLY BOOK?
Members are on their own to get a copy.
Our #1 place is our local library. While Horror Explorers isn't affiliated with any library, most of us are patrons.
Books are chosen far in advance and we request the new titles to our home branches. That's why the list is so far out. It takes awhile to process those suggestions. Not everyone can afford to buy new every month & I don't want that to prevent you from enjoying the group. If you can't find a free copy, please send me a PM.
WHERE WE MEET
To keep travel equitable for members, we meet all over the Twin Cities. This way, nobody always has to commute the furthest. We love spooky, gothy, metal & quirky locations. This is NOT your grandmother's book club. 🦇
IS THERE A SET OF QUESTIONS?
No, it's different every time. What makes it a horror book? The main repeat discussion point is how the book speaks to fear. Fear is a literary driver & can be categorized many ways. Much horror fiction explains character motivation in how they process fear. Meetings are causal. I just love hearing different opinions & getting viewpoints I didn't see when reading.
BUT I DIDN'T FINISH READING
Reading the entire book is NOT a requirement for attendance! Anybody is welcome to come to meetings. Be prepared for spoilers, though. I haven't finished reading all the selections, but I really love the discussion & meeting with like-minded people.
WHO CHOOSES THE BOOKS?
Members choose our reads! If nobody suggests anything, I will. But on our 1st meeting, I said I was hoping others would choose titles--what a cool way to discover new authors. If you want to suggest a book, message or text me!
WHO CAN POST IN HERE
Everyone can post anything horror literature-related! We love your book reviews & always want to know if local horror authors are doing signing events. Feel free to ask for book recommendations, too.
ANY VIRTUAL OPTIONS?
No, not at this time. I have no idea how to even start with that & I don't have equipment. If a member would like to volunteer the tech & expertise to get us virtual, that would be amazing!!
