From the New York Times bestselling author of The Only Good Indians is a chilling historical horror novel tracing the life of a vampire who haunts the fields of the Blackfeet reservation looking for justice.

Told in transcribed interviews by a Blackfeet named Good Stab, who shares the narrative of his peculiar life over a series of confessional visits. This is an American Indian revenge story written by one of the new masters of horror, Stephen Graham Jones.

“What I am is the Indian who can’t die. I’m the worst dream America ever had.” The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is my new favorite SGJ novel and it’s out today! It’s really dark and heavy, but beautiful at the same time. I’ve never read anything like it. I really can’t recommend this book enough. Please go get a copy! Happy Pub Day SGJ 🫶🏻

Let me preface this review by noting that I am the self-appointed #1 fan of Stephen Graham Jones. I haven’t read an SGJ book I didn’t like. The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is an historic vampire tale with a gory, melancholic (due to the impact of the historical atrocities) slow-burn intro where it’s not clear if humans or the paranormal are the worst monsters (I’m voting human). A vampire relates his confessional life story to a gluttonous Lutheran pastor, Interview With a Vampire-style. Once Jones drops the twist, you’re diving full speed into satisfying and disturbing climactic revenge like no other. I finished this book on a night when I was sick and couldn’t sleep, and let me say this story stayed with me like an insomnia-induced fever dream. I continued to not sleep afterward because all I could do was savor and dissect the book in my head. This is yet another banger from Stephen Graham Jones.
