Bookish in Bethesda

Since gathering in this digital space, and now in person a few times we have some ground rules by which we are going to abide.

Book Selection and Diversity

• We will alternate between fiction and non-fiction each month.
• Instead of voting we will have members choose the book. We will give members an opportunity to sign up for the month they'd like to pick the book.
• Book length and availability will be reviewed before announcing.

Meetings

• The member who selects the book will get to choose a location for our meeting.
• Meetings take place the last Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. (Exceptions may be made based on availability).
• Unless there is an extenuating circumstance the meeting will be in person, not virtual.

Discussions

• Our discussions won't necessarily have a leader but rely on the members to prepare at least one question for the group.
• We are not picking books more than a month in advance.
• The meeting facilitator (Erica or whomever is deputized) will provide an opening question, including asking the book selector to reveal why they choose the book they did.
• The facilitator will also provide for book club logistics before the ending of the event.
• Our last question of each club will ask everyone to share - what if anything they are taking from the book into their lives, what if anything in the conversation changed their perspective on the book, and who if anyone they'd recommend the book to.

Member Etiquette

• We assume good intent
• We keep the conversation respectful
• We are accountable to each other. Work with the facilitiator if you have an issue with another member.
