About big spoon society
🍽 RSVP & Claim Your Dish →
We’re a Charlotte-based cookbook club that meets in person once a month. Each month we choose one cookbook and cook our way through its pages as a group.
📚 what we read & cook
Each month, one member chooses a cookbook—a reflection of who they are or what they’re curious about—and we gather to cook and learn together from:
- Seasonal or skill-building books like That Sounds So Good by Carla Lalli Music to cook what’s fresh or try something new
- Celebrated favorites like James Beard winner Start Here by Sohla El-Waylly
- Global and diasporic cuisines like Arabiyya by Reem Assil that honor the histories and traditions behind each dish
Whenever possible, we choose books available through the library so everyone can take part.
🤝 how we gather
- RSVP before the event – Use the RSVP form to claim your dish and save your seat.
- Need a recipe? – No cookbook, no problem—we’ll send you the recipe for your chosen dish after you RSVP.
- Allergies & needs – Share dietary restrictions or accessibility requests in your RSVP notes.
- Future book picks – After you’ve joined your first in-person meetup, you can join the rotation to choose a future cookbook.
✨ why join us?
You’ll spend an hour making a single dish and walk away with tastes of a dozen more, new cooking confidence, and a tableful of friends. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or just curious, this club is about sharing food, stories, and the joy of learning together.
