Xeni: A Marriage of Inconvenience (2)

She just wanted to claim her inheritance. What she got was a husband...
Xeni Everly-Wilkins has ten days to clean out her recently departed aunt's massive colonial in Upstate New York. With the feud between her mom and her sisters still raging even in death, she knows this will be no easy task, but when the will is read Xeni quickly discovers the decades old drama between the former R&B singers is just the tip of the iceberg.
The Secrets, lies, and a crap ton of cash spilled on her lawyer's conference room table all come with terms and conditions. Xeni must marry before she can claim the estate that will set her up for life and her aunt has just the groom in mind. The ruggedly handsome and deliciously thicc Scotsman who showed up at her aunt's memorial, bagpipes at the ready.
When his dear friend and mentor Sable Everly passed away, Mason McInroy knew she would leave a sizable hole in his heart. He never imagined she'd leave him more than enough money to settle the debt that's keeping him from returning home to Scotland. He also never imagined that Sable would use her dying breaths to play match-maker, trapping Mason and her beautiful niece in a marriage scheme that comes with more complications than either of them need.
With no choice but to say I do, the unlikely pair try to make the best of a messy situation. They had no plans to actually fall in love.

OMG this is even better on audio.
Xeni is the ultimate book girlfriend. I love her! She is so quirky and fierce, I would like to think people look at me and see some of her tenacity and humor.
It was so refreshing to read a heroine that is fully confident in herself, in where she stands in society, and own her sexuality as well. Life throws her a huge monkey wrench with the death of her aunt and she now is an heiress WITH conditions. Despite the deep happenings all around her you never see her identity crumble, her self worth is always as strong.
IF anything her biggest lesson is accepting that she is falling for Mason.
So Mason, sigh... BIG RED HEADED SCOTTISH TALL GLASS OF MILK man. Phew! That man.
He is the most cinnamon rolls of cinnamon rolls. He has is own familial struggles and things to figure out past the marriage of convenience he is now in. I really enjoyed reading his journey especially the way he handled things with his father.
Now these two together? YIKES! Their chemistry is so damn strong that as they discuss very early on bedroom shenanigans you cannot help but breathe a sigh of relief. Because one of you three, Xeni, Mason, or you, the reader needs to bust.
And we all do... wink
Any who this was so enjoyable, it is low angst so no anxiety in how they make it work. It's more logistics and getting some timing right for the two. But the journey to falling in love is so delightful. I want more of them. I want to see how they are now.
