Wild at Heart: A Novel

By K.A. Tucker

From the internationally best-selling author of The Simple Wild comes the continuation of a woman's journey to Alaska and a life she never imagined for herself. Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. When Jonah arrives on her doorstep with a proposition she can't dismiss, she takes the leap and rushes back to Alaska to begin their exciting future together. But Calla soon learns that even the best intentions can lead to broken promises, and that compromise comes with a hefty price-a log cabin in rural Alaska that feels as isolating as the western tundra. With Jonah gone more than he's home, one neighbor who insists on transforming her into a true Alaskan, and another who seems more likely to shoot her than come to her aid, Calla grapples with forging her own path. In a world with roaming wildlife that has her constantly watching over her shoulder and harsh conditions that stretch far beyond the cold, dark, winter months, just stepping outside her front door can be daunting. This is not the future Calla had in mind, leaving her to fear that perhaps she is doomed to follow in her mother's fleeing footsteps after all.

Thanks to K.A. Tucker, I now have the worst book hangover. I've seen The Simple Wild and Wild at Heart recommended everywhere by all my favorite fellow book lovers. I finally know what all the fuss is about. I loved this series so much. It's been a long time since I became so happily immersed in a story. I didn't want it to end, but didn't want to stop reading. And while I loved The Simple Wild, Wild at Heart was--dare I say--a perfectly written follow-up. Tucker deftly picks up Calla's character development right where she left off in The Simple Wild, and the reader is a privileged participant to her character growth. I don't want to give anything away. If you enjoyed The Simple Wild, you will love Wild at Heart.

This book hit so close to home it was painful to read at times because it brought back so many feelings/memories.

I followed a man to a completely different state without thinking it through when I was 26 so I related to Calla so much. And, like Calla it worked out in the end after working through a lot of very painful growing pains together.

Her slow realization that she needed to find her reason to stay in Alaska outside of Jonah echoed my experience so much. The hardest part of a new relationship is once the dust has settled and reality sets in - it’s even harder when that happens and you have no friends, family or a career to bury yourself in.

I loved this book so much.
