While Justice Sleeps: A Thriller (Avery Keene)

L.I.T. ladies Discussion and Review! I trust you all enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing weekend. As we conclude our inaugural book journey, I wanted to share a quick, spoiler-free summary of Stacey Abrams' While Justice Sleeps.📚🗨💬 The intensity of this novel opened up strongly and continued to build while Spanning a mere ten days. This novel embarks on an unexpected adventure encompassing bio-espionage, the weaponization of gene theory, judicial law, and social science—all set against the vibrant backdrop of our nation's capital and the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court. We found the plot to be truly riveting, brimming with both action and intellectual depth. In fact, we agreed this would make an excellent candidate for a captivating television trilogy. (There are 3 books in this series) We also shared a few favorite excerpts that beautifully showcased the author's remarkably impressive writing style, which ranged from brilliantly detailed to surprisingly poetic. For instance, Abrams usage of "Shabby fought with desperate and managed to stay in the fight." This exemplified the author's ability to convey such vivid imagery with so few words. Also, her fluid and seamless usage of flashback to develop the two main characters left us with a clear understanding of Avery's initially unrealized loyalty, a bond that served as the cornerstone of the pacing that propelled this thriller to its shocking conclusion. While some found it to be a quick read, we acknowledged that the author certainly employed a rich vocabulary beyond everyday speech, which was a distraction from the overall flow of the book. Ultimately, While Justice Sleeps garnered a strong average rating of 5 and was considered a thoroughly good read.👍
