Ward D by Freida McFadden follows medical student Amy Brenner during a terrifying overnight shift on a locked psychiatric ward. As her past trauma resurfaces and strange things begin happening, Amy realizes she may not make it out alive. With every hour, the line between reality and madness blurs—and trust becomes a dangerous gamble. When a familiar face from her past appears as a patient, secrets unravel and Amy is forced to confront the darkness she thought she left behind. Ward D by Freida McFadden was definitely an entertaining read that kept me turning the pages. I didn’t predict the twist at all, which made for a fun surprise. That said, it didn’t leave a huge impression—it was a solid thriller, but not one I’d rave about. If you’re looking for a quick, twisty escape that doesn’t require too much emotional investment, this one fits the bill. The setting of the psychiatric ward added a creepy, claustrophobic feel that worked well, and I appreciated how fast-paced the story was. While the characters weren’t super deep, the suspense kept me engaged the whole way through. Freida’s books are always a reliable go-to when I want something shocking and easy to fly through.
