Under Your Scars: A Dark Romance Novel

"If you're so concerned about my humanity, Elena, then reach into my soul and find it, because I'm not sure I have any left."

According to the FBI, I was considered a serial murderer after three kills.

What do they call me after fifty-two?

They call me the Silencer.

One final bullet would have been all it took to stop me from taking another soul, and I would have been doing Meridian City a service by pulling that trigger.

An angel crying for help stopped me, and that night, I took three lives for her. Then three turned into eight. Then eight turned into twenty. Twenty turned into twenty-one. Twenty one turned into twenty-three.

Elena Young is the hero in my story, but I'm the villain in hers.

And this is the kind of story where the villain gets the girl, even if it kills her.

"Under Your Scars" is a dark romance novel intended for mature readers only.

Audiobook review. While a large part of the story was steadily a three star for me, the last quarter and the twist ending pushed it into four stars. That was where we saw the most artistry and creativity come forth. I wasn’t a huge fan of Elena and she was frustrating a lot of the time but I definitely saw some growth in her character. Christian, The Silencer, The Executioner, and the slew of supporting characters made the plot complex and interesting. The narrators did a phenomenal job bringing the characters to life. In particular The Silencer and his menacing laugh are unforgettable. Please heed trigger warnings if you’re interested in reading or listening to this as it does deal with sensitive topics. I cannot fully express how "Under Your Scars" made me feel. This book didn’t just tug at my emotions; it impacted my heart, soul, and entire being. I’ve read dark novels before, but nothing quite like this. The depth, rawness, and pain the characters endure affected me in ways I didn’t expect. While some reviews are less than favourable, I’m grateful I gave this book a chance. We all experience stories differently, and I appreciate that I took the time to dive into this one. It’s a dark read—heavy and intense—but the story, plot, twists, suspense, and spice were masterfully executed. This isn’t just a steamy novel; it evokes every possible emotion: grief, love, anger, hope, despair, and more. The characters are phenomenal. Silencer (Chris), Angel (Elena), Elliott, Bethany, Caroline, and The Executioner are all vividly developed and painfully honest. Some chapters shattered me, while others made me smile despite the darkness. The ending was tragic and unexpected. Not every story concludes with a fairytale, and this one reminded me of that truth in an unforgettable way. Ariel N. Anderson's writing was fearless, haunting, and memorable. I can't wait to read more of your work.

I honestly don't even know where to begin. I've been in a reading slump for pretty much most of 2025 thus far and this book 1000% took me out of that reading slump. I went through so many emotions while reading about Elena's and Christian's life. Oh, my goodness...and regardless of what everyone says...Christian's love for Elena. Captivating, truly. I will say that not all books are meant to be roses and fairy tales. I felt seen in this book in so many ways too. Nearing the end of the book...I was completely crushed and didn't know what to do with my self. I was one hot mess. I am still not sure if another book will be able to top this one for 2025. Highly recommend to read, but obviously read with caution. Ariel did outstanding...very well written and captivated the reader with her words.
