Truly Madly Deeply (Deluxe Edition) (Forbidden Love, 1)

*The limited deluxe edition with alternate cover and blue stained edges*

This old flame just might set them on fire.

Conceited, unattainable, and downright delicious, renowned Michelin-starred chef Ambrose Casablancas has one passion in life--food.

Women are a distraction, and he doesn't do those. Especially Cal Litvin, his baby sister's best friend. Her entire existence is a complication; she's awkward, eccentric, infuriating...

And, much to his chagrin, hotter than his kitchen.

Ambrose has a lot on his plate: a new restaurant to open, a multimillion-dollar property deal to execute, and a violent stalker to tame.

Then Cal shows up at his doorstep, looking for both a job and salvation after their messy goodbye. His resolve, like his patience, is ebbing each day she works at his restaurant.

Because Cal is no longer a doe-eyed girl.

Now? She's the woman he'll do anything to conquer.

***

Quirky, compassionate ball of sunshine Calla Litvin can't catch a break, and not just because she swore off running. Back in her hometown to nurse her mother's broken heart after losing her father, she finds herself jobless, hopeless, and penniless. She hopes to rekindle her friendship with her former BFF, but Dylan is attached at the hip to her cruel brother--the one Cal's been secretly crushing on since middle school.

Falling for the bad boy the second time around would be a mistake of gargantuan proportions.

Too bad she's always been clumsy.

Truly, Madly, Deeply by L.J. Shen burns hot from the first spark and never lets up. Ambrose Casablancas, who goes by Ro, lives with precision. He is a Michelin-starred chef with no room for distraction. Roe keeps his world controlled and carefully curated. Calla Litvin, who goes by Cal, walks back into his life and disrupts all of it. Their shared history simmers beneath every interaction and make the chemistry impossible to ignore. When they finally take the leap what unfolds is less about restraint and more about surrender. The chemistry between Cal and Roe is the entire novel. It feels immediate, consuming, and a feral. Roe’s obsession adds touch her and die energy. His possessive energy translates into scenes that are unapologetically physical and full of sensation. The audiobook amplifies the spice so that you feel just as hot and bothered as Cal. Teddy Hamilton delivers a performance that brings depth and intensity. While Lila Winters adds the breathless that pulls you further into Cal’s perspective. Together, they turn already heated moments into something very immersive. Where the book falters is in its length and focus. At nearly sixteen hours the pacing begins to stretch thin. Side plots surrounding workplace drama and the intertwined family-friendship storyline interrupt the momentum rather than deepen it. The emotional core always returns to Cal and Roe which makes those detours feel more like interruptions to what readers are actually here for. When the story centers on its leading characters it delivers exactly what it promises. Intense attraction, messy history, and a connection that will not be ignored. It is indulgent, dramatic, and very aware of the effect it is trying to create. Readers will love this book if they are looking for a lot of spice, electric chemistry, and falling for Roe just as hard as Cal.
