This book was something else entirely. It tugged at every heartstring I have and reminded me why I love romance stories that feel this real.
Sutton and Charlotte’s relationship unfolds with the kind of slow-burn tension that makes your chest ache. Sutton’s awkwardness, sweetness, and quiet curiosity contrast beautifully with Charlotte’s confidence and control. Charlotte is the kind of woman who seems untouchable, polished, composed and then she opens up in ways that are so vulnerable and magnetic. I love her boldness, her strength, and how unapologetically she takes charge.
The friends-with-benefits setup? You can see the disaster (and the heartbreak) coming from a mile away, and yet, you root for it anyway. Because sometimes two people are meant to collide, no matter how much they try to keep things casual. The misunderstanding between them hurt, but the resolution was so worth the wait.
I especially loved Sutton’s journey of discovering herself and Charlotte’s fearlessness in claiming what (and who) she wants. There’s something so raw and empowering about that balance: one learning, the other leading, and both growing.
And that quote:
“I've learned that love is about finding someone who pulls you to them even when reason might tell you otherwise. Someone who pushes you out of your comfort zone, not because of them doing or saying anything, necessarily, but because they make you want to try new things. They make you want to be daring, because maybe something new and scary doesn't feel quite as scary by their side.”
That hit me right in the soul. It reminded me so much of my own relationship. How love makes you braver just by having the right person beside you.
Haley Cass once again balanced heart, humor, and spice (10/10
