The Snowball Effect by Haley Cass was everything I wanted in a sapphic slow burn and more. This book had me grinning, yelling at the pages, and then melting into a puddle by the end.

Regan is such a lovable goof. She’s trying her best, she’s messy in the most human way, and you can’t help but root for her. She leads with her heart, even when it gets her into trouble. Emma, on the other hand, starts off cold, prickly, and (let’s be real) kind of a bitch. But once you see why she’s built her walls so high, it’s impossible not to soften toward her. Watching these two slowly chip away at each other’s defenses was such a rewarding journey.

The “pretending to be together” trope is one of my personal favorites, and it’s done so well here. It gives both characters just enough distance to tell themselves “it’s not real”… while the feelings sneak in anyway. The tension, the awkwardness, the longing - perfection. It’s a classic case of opposites attract: Regan’s chaos meets Emma’s control, and somehow it just works.

Yes, it’s a slow burn, but that only makes the eventual connection (and those spicy scenes) so much better. Compliments to the chef, Haley Cass, for delivering both heart and heat with such balance.

My favorite quote:
“Looks like we have a real what happens when an unstoppable force meets an unmovable object situation on our hands,” Emma mused. “The force wears the object down,” Regan answered easily. “It’s called erosion.”
That line sums them up perfectly: stubborn hearts slowly reshaping each other.
