What a charming, warm, sexy gem of a novel....One of the best books I've read in a while.”—Roxane Gay, New York Times bestselling author of Hunger

Agreeing to go to a wedding with a guy she gets stuck with in an elevator is something Alexa Monroe wouldn't normally do. But there's something about Drew Nichols that's too hard to resist.

On the eve of his ex's wedding festivities, Drew is minus a plus one. Until a power outage strands him with the perfect candidate for a fake girlfriend....

After Alexa and Drew have more fun than they ever thought possible, Drew has to fly back to Los Angeles and his job as a pediatric surgeon, and Alexa heads home to Berkeley, where she's the mayor's chief of staff. Too bad they can't stop thinking about the other....

They're just two high-powered professionals on a collision course toward the long distance dating disaster of the century--or closing the gap between what they think they need and what they truly want....

Romance. Ah love. Love between a white pediatric surgeon who need a date and black lawyer who works for the mayor of Berkeley. Solid read. Wasn't spectacular.

I don’t know if it’s just because the voice of the audiobook sounded much older than the character she was supposed to be playing or what. There was so much miscommunication and assumption and insecurity that the chemistry felt from them in the initial portion of the book did not last throughout the entirety of the book. I read this because I bought the proposal and didn’t realize it was the second one in the series but now I’m scared to read the proposal.

I read The Proposal first but wanted to go back and read this one before reading the next one. Guillory is an excellent writer but this one isn't my favorite of the two I've read so far. Alexa and Drew drove me a little crazy for two professional adults. I give it three stars because I enjoyed a light read. Actually glad I didn't read it first because I would have passed on the rest but because I read The Proposal first I have hope for the series.

2.3 Had some interesting moments but I am not a fan of assumptions and that was happening constantly throughout the book. Also not the biggest fan of Drew.
