Overall a fun book but I suspect the eventual adaptation is going to be just as good, if not better. It's a pretty quick, easy, read. I'm not a huge fan of the writing style but since it's mostly dialogue it is extremely light reading, so describing it as a "beach read" is very appropriate. A few of the twists were interesting and unexpected, a few were corny and you could see them from the beginning.
There was a significant lack of tension - most things happened (and were resolved) very, very quickly. It felt as if it was written with the intention of making a TV show or movie out of it, not so much to give you a deep understanding of the characters.
A lot of the topics the book claimed to touch upon were very shallow though, particularly describing how the main character overcomes "racism and sexism" when the racism was simply not on the table for the entire book (excluding about two paragraphs in one of the first chapters) and the sexism wasn't overcome so much as enforced?

An incredible story about old Hollywood, a beautiful women and the men in her life. One of the best I have read.
I'm very conflicted about this one. There were moments where I couldn't stop reading and moments where I didn't want to pick up the book because I was so bored.
An interesting perspective - written about a book being written - seamlessly switching between the perspectives of the author and the subject. I enjoyed the focuses on different types of love and intimacy - without being graphic. This was a well written book that kept me engaged, and even becoming emotional as it wrapped up and the ties between the main characters finally being revealed.
