Everyone knows DAISY JONES & THE SIX, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now. Daisy is a girl coming of age in L.A. in the late sixties, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it's the rock 'n' roll she loves most. By the time she's twenty, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne. On the eve of their first tour, his girlfriend Camila finds out she's pregnant, and with the pressure of impending fatherhood and fame, Billy goes a little wild on the road. Daisy and Billy cross paths when a producer realizes that the key to supercharged success is to put the two together. What happens next will become the stuff of legend. The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

There is something about this author's writing that just sucks me into the story! The story is told in a similar style as 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but it is as a journalist interviewing multiple people about the rise and fall of the 70s band Daisy jones and the Six. The alternating viewpoints can be quite amusing, and as the journalist says in the beginning of the novel "it should be noted that, on matters both big and small, sometimes accounts of the same event differ".
We start with the separate stories of Daisy Jones, the beautiful spoiled child with parents who ignored her, drifting into drugs sex and music. She finds out she has a gift for lyrics and singing, without training or effort.
Meanwhile, brothers Graham and Billy form a rock band, also with a negligent father figure. Again, drugs sex and rock and roll - but they are just missing the success they are looking for. After touring for The Six's first album, Billy goes into rehab and tries to be a father and husband for his wife Camila and his new daughter. While working on their next album, producer Teddy says suggest a duet would ramp up the band, and he suggests Daisy. The rest becomes history as band members experience in fighting, drug abuse, oversized egos, and all the other typical rock band issues.
Daisy and Billy seem to dislike each other immediately - but you can tell its because they are the same personality type. the author does a good job of showing not telling chemistry. It was interesting to hear about how they created songs, although I couldn't really hear the music style (I am hoping the tv series makes this part real for me).
I really didn't see the end twist coming, the interviewer. Nicely done, Reid.
I like to read reviews after i read a novel because i don't want to be influenced by them while I read a new book. Many reviews mentioned how unlikeable the characters are, and this is really true. Normally i don't like novels where the characters are unlikeable. Somehow, Reid pulls it off in a way that keeps me reading to the end though. I found this true of "7 Husbands" also.
This book is written about a band called Daisy Jones and The Six. Itâs the rise and fall of a 1970s rock band and all the crazy stuff that happens in between - sex, drugs and rock and roll.
TJR⦠wow. Hit it out of the park on this one. I honestly cannot recommend listening to this as an audiobook enough. Itâs done with a full cast, so each character is a different narrator. I honestly felt like I was watching a documentary about this band while I was listening to it. Itâs full of all the highs and lows, the love and heartbreak. Easy 5âï¸.

Takes you on a ride of rollercoaster of emotions. Love, greed, drugs, alcohol, regrets, redemption, jealousy and excess ...all in the name of hit albums. That's Rock-n-Roll.
