Certain stories I liked and certain story I didn’t like. It’s written well that it held my attention.
Following the female leads of each chapter, the author explores the moral devotion to religion yet the characters inner desires and sexuality, family ties and obligations, and their compromise to be true to their selves yet still devoted to their beliefs. It's a book that is awakening, relatable, and even comedic at times. a great read for those who believe in faith whether it would be a greater spirit or just the drive for moral goodness in the world.
I thought the book was much more racy than I thought it would be. I didn't care for a lot of the sexual stuff that was an overwhelming part of the book.
I also tried to attend the book club meeting but was left with a screen that said I was too early and the host would let me know when the meeting would begin. That never happened. I have never had this happen in any book club I've joined and I sent an email that hasn't been answered.
first short story collection book that held my interest and had clear commonalities between the stories. so many messages and themes to unpack
I enjoyed this short story collection about Black Church Ladies from the South. It was a good exploration of each woman's inner desires and passions that's oftentimes masked when attending Sunday church service. They were all so honest about their needs and wants beyond what society and community tells them.
