Fascinating

A little more dry than the previous books, it continues the journey of the relationship between God, and man, science and faith. If you have an open mind, this is a terrific read.

I've always pegged myself as a pretty big Dan Brown fan even when others complain about his writing abilities and how his books read like a screenplay. Well, I can't defend against this book because I agree with them. The book wasn't bad by any stretch, it just wasn't that good. The book dragged on for far too long and the major plot reveal at the end of the book could be seen coming from halfway through the story. When you know what's coming, the big surprise often leaves you wanting.

I'll pick up his newest book Inferno one day, I'm just going to take my time getting to it.

While the book is a page-turner, I found the plot really hard to swallow. Furthermore, I really noticed just how awkward of a writer Dan Brown seems to be. He uses many phrases that one would almost expect to find in pulp fiction. Characters are flat, and where they are developed, I was distracted by the writing style. The New Age elements of the book really turned me off, early on, but I pressed on because the book was a page turner. Unfortunately, with one exception (an unexpected plot twist toward the end), they payoff was disappointing.

Well, if I was writing my review while still reading the first half of this book, I would have given it three to four stars. But unfortunately, by the time I made it to the last third of this book, I couldn't wait for it to be over. The story felt so redundant by the end, and I didn't feel like the story developed very well at all. I am definitely over Dan Brown. However, once again, I am glad I read this book.

I didn't get to read this series in order, so it may or may not justify my high rating but I really enjoyed the unexpected antagonist identity plot twist in this one! Otherwise, it was modeled similar to the others, with wonderful descriptions of artwork, architecture and symbolism. And the protagonist completes his unanticipated journey/adventure/mystery all within an exhaustingly short period of time, in every novel.
