The Likeness: A Novel

In the follow-up to Tana French’s runaway bestseller In the Woods, itʼs six months later and Cassie Maddox has transferred out of the Dublin Murder Squad with no plans to go back—until an urgent telephone call summons her to a grisly crime scene. The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Cassie must discover not only who killed this girl, but, more important, who was this girl?

Excellent book--great writer. Set in Dublin and somehow the way she writes makes you "hear" the story in an Irish brogue!

Loved this unlikely tale even more than "In the Woods." The characters in French's stories are gritty and realistic. This plot line involved one of the detectives from the previous book. Cassie was called out to a crime scene not covered in her new department. As it turns out, the murder victim is a doppelganger for Cassie, who was using an undercover identity that Cassie and her previous boss had created years before. Cassie goes undercover as the girl, convincing her housemates that she was wounded, not killed and the insanity begins. This is a murder mystery, but even more so, this is a search for oneself, as Cassie immerses herself in the other woman's life, she is constantly at risk of losing herself in the process.
