I enjoyed the books perspective from the housecleaners point of view. The attitude that you are no better than anyone else goes a long way with me in stories. I understood her struggle and was interested in the outcome. Although I do not think I would have put up with her husband as long as she did, I know there are kinder people out there who would have. Loved the bit about finding a new partner and best friend later in life. One of the most interesting characters to me was of course the older lady in the story who she was helping out.
An intriguing concept with great potential, but I found the inclusion of unnecessary graphic and sexual content to be distracting and, at times, detracting from the heart of the narrative. it made it somehow vulgar and shocking for no reason really. While the story's themes of memory and storytelling were compelling, the more explicit elements seemed out of place and overshadowed the book’s deeper emotional layers. It felt like a missed opportunity to let the core story shine without the added weight of such content, which is a shame, because the voice and talent of the author are very apparent to me.
Great characters, wonderful storytelling, clever and unique - this book made me enjoy reading again!
