The Humans

When an extraterrestrial arrives on Earth, his first impressions of humans are less than positive. Taking the form of Professor Andrew Martin at Cambridge University, the visitor is eager to complete his task and hurry back to his own utopian planet. Disgusted by the way humans look, what they eat, their capacity for murder and war, he is equally baffled by the concepts of love and family. But as time goes on, he starts to reconsider.

Matt Haig is slowly starting to become one of my favorite authors. I already loved The Midnight Library and now I loved The Humans almost as much! This extraterrestrial-come-to-Earth story was funny, emotional, and heart-warming all at the same time. Side note: I loved the voice actor they hired for the audiobook reading of this novel as well. His delivery and portrayal of the main character was spot-on.
LOVED this. I definitely would recommend it. It reminded me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Almost too much so, really. But I still enjoyed it once I got past that annoyance.
I rate this book a 3.5 and rounded it up to 4. I originally had difficulty getting into it and found it a rather jarring bit of long exposition, but I fell into it as I went along. It's a funny and interesting look at humanity with some surprisingly stark insight. If you're going to nitpick the plausibility of the whole thing, then it obviously isn't the book for you, but I found it to be a charming book that made me feel good at the end.
