Thought you were getting a sports drama? Think again! It’s full of drama, just not all of it from the sport. Lots of trigger warnings to be aware of, lots of heavy topics, but a ton of dark humor and sarcastic little shits of characters to balance it out. Phenomenal characters, and a wild ass ride of a plot. Read all the other books too, surprisingly very gay in the best way possible

Okay. Hear me out. I will admit I didn't enjoy this book too much at first. It largely revolves around a contact sport, aka not exactly my forte; the characters are mostly male and pretty hard to relate to, and initially I didn't really know what was going on?? The writing style is kind of generic (the words aren't super beautiful, but everything has a purpose), etc. etc. I could go on forever about the flaws.
The only real thing that hooked me was Neil Josten. He just kind of grows on you, okay- you're just reading, and then halfway through someone hurts Neil and you're all ready to throw some hands and then you step back and wonder when the heck That happened. Neil is adorable and quite a dork, clueless about a lot of things, and very single-minded but somehow still humble and undemanding. This may not sound like a great description. Just read the book and you'll know. <3
The other reason I kept reading was because I'd heard a lot about Andreil and quite honestly, my curiosity was piqued. I really disliked Andrew in the beginning ((I can't believe it either)) and I genuinely could not picture any kind of relationship between him and Neil. So let me just say this (mild spoiler?): Nora Sakavic is apparently a master at the enemies-to-lovers trope, and it's fucking beautiful. The Andreil is worth it. Please, please keep reading if you're considering giving up because that light at the end of the tunnel?? It's really bright. xx
