“A breathtaking update on the McDeeres and the life they made . . . Grisham, in vintage form, ratchets up the suspense in this winning sequel.” —The Wall Street Journal

What became of Mitch and Abby McDeere after they exposed the crimes of Memphis law firm Bendini, Lambert & Locke and fled the country? The answer is found in The Exchange, the riveting sequel to The Firm, the blockbuster thriller that launched the career of America’s favorite storyteller.

It is now fifteen years later, and Mitch and Abby are living in Manhattan, where Mitch is a partner at the largest law firm in the world. When a mentor in Rome asks him for a favor that will take him as far as Istanbul and Tripoli, Mitch finds himself at the center of a sinister plot that has worldwide implications. Once again Mitch’s colleagues, friends, and family are targeted. Mitch is a master at staying one staying one step ahead of his adversaries, but this time there’s nowhere to hide.

Look for John Grisham’s forthcoming legal thriller, The Widow. This time, the verdict isn’t the end of the story.

Do you ever have something you loved way back in the past? Decades ago? Maybe a book or even music that when you opened up in the present day just read or sounded boring; maybe not stood the test of time? I think you know where I'm going with this.

I use to be a huge fan of John Grisham and "The Firm", "The Pelican Brief", "A Time to Kill" were some of my favorite books so I was very happy to get a copy of Grisham's current book "The Exchange" which is sequel to "The Firm"

This one takes place fifteen years later and Mitch is a partner at a huge law firm. We all forgot the consequences of what happens at the ending of "The Firm" and somehow Mitch gets to keep practicing law...... But water under the bridge as MItch is sent to Rome to assist with a lawsuit to collect a huge debt when one of his associates gets kidnapped with a huge ransome. The book quickly turns to Mitch and the firm trying to pay this ransom.

This could have been a great international thriller! But what kills it is the lifeless writing. Just empty characters with no personality. I honestly couldn't get over it espcially when it made the book more boring. Grisham is a great writer, and the plot does move along masterfully, but it's just Character A,B,C etc etc. No character has any distict personality and honestly Grisham should have not even made this a sequal to "The Firm" Just used new characters.

It's still John Grisham and if you loved "The Firm" you will get some value reading this book but take away that factor and it's average.

I really appreciate Doubleday Books for giving me the opportunity to read this book for free for a honest review and it's out now.

1.5 stars - so little happens in this book I think I could summarize all of it in two sentences. One if you don't want all the details. Boring

I felt this book needed more drama. I was going to DNF this book around chapter 5 but around chapter 10 it was a little interesting but after it got super boring.

Enjoyed catching up with the McDeere’s. I can’t say that Abby was a favorite, she got on my nerves with all the kitchen takeovers. It was like she was afraid to spend time on her own with Mitch and the boys. Came across as a user in a position to affect the fortunes of fledgling restaurateurs. And she made some questionable choices being the main point of contact. But Mitch was solid. One niggling plot point was the lack of resolution on Mitch being food-poisoned. Or was it a coincidence? We just don’t learn anything further. If random, then one wonders how the plot may have manifested if Mitch was also taken hostage. I thought there was far too much plane and country-hopping, without benefiting or advancing the story itself. But it did set up perfectly for a sequel, featuring Giovanna. Hard to put down, an intriguing ride.
