Back again reading books for children. This one slayed. The dialogue is really good- I love the way the dragonets tease each other and are sarcastic. It’s cute and it works. I read this one as a kid (actually I read the whole first series, so we’ll see how far I get). I knew a lot of the reveals and some stuff that isn’t revealed yet, but it’s all built up pretty well. The Wings of Fire books are just full of lore and amazing world building. This one was also pretty gruesome- I guess i blocked some of that out of my memory. Kinda like Warrior Cats and Guardians of Gahoole- these silly animals be MURDERING. Especially the baby murder, that’s nuts. Anyway- I enjoyed. I’m a big girl now, I can handle gore. Good book- Clay is precious but I’m ready for him to be irrelevant for the rest of the series.

This book was great, and the plot was entertaining. I had already read the graphic novel version, but this had more detail and I liked it better. My favorite characters are Glory and Tsunami, and my favorite part was when Glory stopped pretending to be asleep and (probably) killed Queen Scarlet with her venom. The part that surprised me the most was when Kestrel died, since the dragonets had just rescued her and I thought she would live. This series will probably turn out to be one my favorites, and I’m very excited to read the next book.

This was a well-written fantasy but it's the very beginning of a series and it has no resolution in this first installment. It was very violent where it concerns dragons. Humans are regarded by the dragons the way we'd regard cows. There were a few week plot points like why was Starflight just suddenly free?

I love that there are seven dragon tribes with different powers and the 5 main characters have a good reason to be figuring things out as the readers do too.

I read this book with my eight-year-old and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. It is such an exciting introduction to the series and we can’t wait to start the next book!

It’s tough being a teenage dragon, but especially so when your egg was snatched from your family and you were hatched and raised in a secret, underground hideout with four other dragonets from different tribes. This book is written from the perspective of Clay, a caring and deeply loyal, Mudwing. We learn how he and his friends are trained and lessoned hard every day in preparation for them to fulfill an alleged, ancient prophecy which predicts that they will end a decades-long war between the many dragon tribes. It’s a heavy burden to bear for the five dragonets and they finally start making some big decisions for themselves, with varying degrees of success.

We are hooked and can’t wait to find out what happens next!
