The Bromance Book Club
The first rule of book club: You don't talk about book club. Nashville Legends second baseman Gavin Scott's marriage is in major league trouble. He's recently discovered a humiliating secret: his wife Thea has always faked the Big O. When he loses his cool at the revelation, it's the final straw on their already strained relationship. Thea asks for a divorce, and Gavin realizes he's let his pride and fear get the better of him. Welcome to the Bromance Book Club. Distraught and desperate, Gavin finds help from an unlikely source: a secret romance book club made up of Nashville's top alpha men. With the help of their current read, a steamy Regency titled Courting the Countess, the guys coach Gavin on saving his marriage. But it'll take a lot more than flowery words and grand gestures for this hapless Romeo to find his inner hero and win back the trust of his wife.

Iâd say closer to 3.5. I try really hard to like romance but it really doesnât do it for me. The story was nice and sweet. Love the idea of the menâs book club.
This was a fantastic read. I loved it from the beginning. The friendship between Gavin and the other men in the book club warmed my heart from the get-go. Their interactions, while heartfelt, was also hilarious and light. It was difficult for me to differentiate them at first though. Only the Russian stood out, what with him and his intolerance to lactose. I shudder to imagine the stench from his farts and release in the bathroom!
I found the concept really interesting. Using romance novels as manuals? We even get to read bits of what they're reading in between chapters. Of course, these bits reflect the current relationship between Gavin and Thea. The solution is within. Topics on toxic masculinity is also discussed here, and vice versa, about feminism. It's obvious that all the men in this book club respect women a lot. In retrospect, I felt that these two topics prevailed until the very end. Things turned out in a way that didn't only blame the man, but the woman as well. One too many times we read books that showed men as the culprits behind the catastrophic events leading up to the end of a relationship. Seeing Thea own up to her insecurities was a relief. It was difficult for her, but she managed to do it, for the sake of love.
Naturally, after completing this, I went straight to reading book two.
