Things were looking bleak for this series. Book 2 and 3 were very bland. So bland that I do not know the difference between those 4 characters when they're in a scene unless a specific detail is pointed out. However, this book was great. I loved most of it. My one issue is that the way Elena felt when Vlad said he waited for her (around 65%) felt forced, like square peg into a round hole forced.
I saw the twist coming from a mile away, but I ignored it because I liked Vlad and Elena together so much. I am picky with friends to lovers, but this one worked for me. All this happening when she was 20 helped. She was young and scared so not asking Vlad a lot of questions did not strike me as out of the realm of possibility. I do wish we had gotten to see more of their friendship growing up so we could really feel that bond.
