Crazy Stupid Bromance (Bromance Book Club)

"[A] catchy premise with surprising wisdom and specificity."--New York Times Book Review on The Bromance Book Club

A LibraryReads Hall of Fame Title

A hacktivist and a cat café owner decode the friend zone in this romantic comedy from the author of Undercover Bromance.

Alexis Carlisle and her cat café, ToeBeans, have shot to fame after she came forward as a victim of a celebrity chef's sexual harassment. When a new customer approaches to confide in her, the last thing Alexis expects is for the woman to claim they're sisters. Unsure what to do, Alexis turns to the only man she trusts--her best friend, Noah Logan.

Computer genius Noah left his rebellious teenage hacker past behind to become a computer security expert. Now he only uses his old skills for the right cause. But Noah's got a secret: He's madly in love with Alexis. When she asks for his help, he wonders if the timing will ever be right to confess his crush.

Noah's pals in The Bromance Book Club are more than willing to share their beloved "manuals" to help him go from bud to boyfriend. But he must decide if telling the truth is worth risking the best friendship he's ever had.

This is my first intro to the Bromance Book Club series. OMG, I have fallen in love with this book series. Like the other instalments in this series, Crazy, Stupid Bromance is light, fun, hilarious, sweet, romantic, steamy, and everything else I could ask for in a feel-good novel. It tugs at your heart for kidney transplant, unknown father and DNA surprise of a whole new family, pesky and bitter store neighbors, to being the whistle blower to a famous chef and the #MeToo movement.

Alexis and Noah are best friends. Unfortunately for Noah, who is hopelessly in love with Alexis, he’s afraid that he’s now stuck in the friend zone. Little does he know, Alexis slowly starts to develop feelings for Noah but she isn’t sure on how he feels. A lot of back and forth on that but done in an extremely cute way. Neither of them want to ruin the friendship which is why neither of them want to make the first move. Then there’s her cat, Beefcake who loves to hate on Noah.

The members of the Bromance Book Club who read romance novels as the guide handbook on how to understand the women’s mind are hysterical!. The parts where the entire group gets together to stage “interventions” (which is seemingly becoming a regular occurrence in this series) are definitely a highlight of these books. They have such a comfortable dynamic, and they always seem to know what’s going on or what’s wrong with each other, though they seem to be hopeless when it comes to their own love lives. Which is why having this group is so important.

While the focus of the novel is somewhat equally distributed between the romance between Alexis and Noah and Noah’s joining the Bromance Book Club, the author doesn’t neglect other relationships in the characters’ lives. Alexis has her own plotline involving her family (long lost “you’re my dad?!”) and Noah comes to terms with his father’s premature death fifteen years earlier. This book has a lot more to this book than a funny title and silly cover jacket and that there’s self-discovery and acceptance, for both Alexis and Noah.

My favorite character is The Russian. He is a man of mystery and literally everything that comes out of the Russian’s mouth had me in hysterics. The guys in the romance book club are trying to deduce if he is truly in fact married or not. We will find out the answer in her next book, Isn’t it Bromantic?

The more I get into the series, the less impressed I am. So far, book two and book three cannot match up to book one, and I'm disappointed. I'm no longer sure if I'd like to continue this series.

This book has the friendship-to-lovers trope. They'd been in love with one another for a long time, but neither had dared to make the first move in case it ruined their friendship. Noah had been facing issues from the moment his father died, and Alexis had been getting through the trauma from being sexually harrassed - together, they supported one another. When Noah started facing problems with their relationship with Alexis from a kiss, the Bromance Book Club decided to help him, even though Noah was skeptical about what they do from the beginning. Through the ups and downs of the relationship, Alexis also found her father and the rest of her remaining family.

Honestly... not too much happened. I felt that the romance portion was more an afterthought. I didn't feel for this match between Noah and Alexis.

Just so good.
Youve got best friends to lovers.
Laugh out loud bromance book club moments. Including the spa day the men took, I was on the floor laughing.
Swoon worthy moments.
The perfect amount of steam.
This series keeps a special spot in my heart and continues to do so

I cannot tell if Lyssa is only a mediocre writer or if she set herself up for failure with the subplots she decided to put into this book.

The kidney subplot enraged me. While reading, I realized I immediately see red and have zero tolerance when I feel like someone is being taken advantage of. I hated Alexis's biological family. They never redeemed themselves. Candi was annoying; Cayden was straight up garage human; the mom and dad were pathetic. I am heartless but Alexis should have walked away after the disaster that was meeting the family.

There was no way to make that plot work without having the whole book be about Alexis building a relationship with her biological family. Instead the family came off as only interested in her because the father desperately needed a kidney and Alexis came off as weak for giving it to him in the end.

On to Noah's subplot: his mom upset me. She said she didn't realize how bad things were between him and Marshall. You want me to believe that she didn't see what an asshole Marshall was for 15 years? 15 YEARS!!! I call bullshit.

The only reason this book got 2 stars instead of 1 star, is because I liked Noah and Alexis and the bromance book club.
