In my opinion this is the BEST of Lucy Maud Montgomery's works. It is a wonderfully honest and brilliant short novel with REAL people, REAL struggles and some whimsy along the way.
A work (or should I say masterpiece!) that validates the reader's worth through an exploration of its characters' own is a thing of beautiful humility, humble beauty. This novel was recommended to me by my close friend and roommate as her favorite book... I can understand why. There is such a humanity to this story, and to the way in which it is told. What I like about this book is really hard to put into words. The character of Valancy really resonated with me and I connected a lot with her struggles and her hopes for her future. Montgomery is such a talented writer, she gives everything such charm and describes things so beautifully. This is like my comfort book, I love it.
