Between The Covers

Welcome to Between the Covers Book Club!

We are a small book club that is all about the Booktok world! Our main choice of books are the dark romance, but we will also have a choice of other genres too!

We will try to meet twice a month. One week will be to pick the book we will be reading. The following weeks will be to discuss all of have read this far. We will continue to discuss until we have completed the book. We will try to do at least one book a month however we all know that life gets in the way and that may not be possible.

We will switch where we meet every time. One week it will beat my house, the next it will be at someone else's. We do not have to, but I feel that it would be nice to have small refreshments during our meetings.

I hope that you will enjoy your time and enjoy the new friendships that are made during this! I cannot wait to spend time with you!

Love Always,

Victoria

WOW

TWs: DARKKKKK, there are too many content warnings to list here, please read the warning at the beginning of the book and proceed with caution.

Man…I thought that I had read dark and twisted. This was next level. The obsession and twists and turns that this book took were incredible.
I really enjoyed Briony. I always love a badass FMC. And while she was naive and innocent in the beginning of the book, it was interesting to hear her inner monologue and feelings about things that were happening. It definitely showed that you can’t always assume things about people. The way that she grew into her own and was constantly learning more about her own life and the people she trusted was admirable. She was strong and constantly thinking a step ahead.
Aero was the best kind of MMC. The “touch her and I will unalive you” vibes were so literal in this book. There isn’t anything he would have done for Briony. From the beginning, his life was devoted to taking care of her and watching her from a distance. He loved her in his own messed up way and had no idea what to do with it. He just wanted her for himself. He had to learn that while he wanted to watch her grow and strengthen emotionally and physically, he couldn’t trap her in a cage like the people around her did. He had so much trauma and emotional depth to him. It was heartbreaking to hear about his life and everything he had done to be where he was. At first his plan for revenge included taking Briony and using her to dismantle the system. He realized though that she was a weapon all her own and that the team they made together was far stronger than either of them alone.

People are rating this book majorly on the comparison to Zade Meadows. Aero and Zade are not comparable except that they both stalker their woman. People are saying the scar makes him a wanna-be Zade, but Aero has several pointed-out facial scars from his trauma.

To get into the review, overall, I liked this book. This works through trauma and revenge through the destruction of religion. It discusses traumas from within the church and manipulations from people in power.

I agree with some reviews saying they expected more work towards destroying 18 years of teaching via the church and it taking more temptation to make her leave the church. It was a very quick "I've suddenly forgotten everything I've spent my life working for"

Regardless, the smut is well written and the revenge story had me captivated through to the end of the book.

That sik luv

Wow, okay, where to begin.
Spice! That's a good start. While this tale was pretty dark in theme the spice was off the charts hot! The detail just blew my mind.
So why the three stars? The story, outside the spice was a little disjointed for me. One minute she's sweet and innocent and the next she's a total bad b. It was like a switches flipped and lost me a little.

Jescie Hall does it again! I went into this somewhat blind. I was reading this in a buddy read and started way after everyone else. So I did talk to my friend about the story and she wasnt digging it at first. We discussed it with our other friend and she put things into more of a perspective for us and she restarted when I started. IT WAS WORTH IT!

This story was a RIDE! At first there were things that I was kind of rolling my eyes toward. Its religion heavy, and with some books that are religion heavy, I will DFN. But I kept on trucking and once things started falling into place *chefs kiss*! The twists this story took I was not expecting. I was at a good 4 stars until the very end of the story. It bumped it up to a 5 star read.

There is graphic violence in this book. Along with graphic scenes of abuse so I would check your triggers and content warnings for this book. I dont want to say too much because Im scared to give too much away.

But I definitely recommend!
