I read Volume 1 two years ago and then...I'm not sure what happened being that I really liked the the first one.
I was reminded that I had bought up to Volume 4 when I saw this is now a show on Netflix and figured I should probably get caught up so the show doesn't ruin anything for me. Ah, motivation.
Jessup is by far my favorite character and this volume only intensified my adoration.

He's clearly the muscle. And he was even more muscle-y (yep, that's a real word) in his youth. And while the first volume gave us glimpses of him having a heart, this one sealed the deal. The scene beneath the tree = actual tears.
This volume goes back and forth between and then does some intertwining with Jessup and Gus. Jessup's tale is emotional and heartbreaking with a lot of backstory. On the flipside, the Gus (Sweet Tooth) portion has him in the camp meeting other children similar to himself and is intriguing and mysterious. What happened and how did he come to be? I NEED TO KNOW RIGHT NOW.
5 Stars that I almost didn't give out of sheer stubbornness but this is too GOOD not to
